You probably just got fed up and tired of it. It's normal, I’ve experienced something similar. I still watch anime and have fun, but not at the same pace as before.

My advice is to try out different things to "desaturate" it a bit. You could look for new anime or try watching it in a different way, like with friends. But honestly, I think it might be better to step away from it for a while. Watch other series, movies, play games, read books, talk to people, study, anything!

Then, after some time, maybe a few months, try watching it again with a fresh mindset.

I can offer some insights from how I've been learning to enjoy things in new ways as I get older.

if you're wanting to watch more anime because there's so much you want to watch and enjoy, but just don't feel like it: it's okey to not want to watch it right this second, you can wait until something sparks your interest and then watch that. You don't have to set a timetable because you feel like you're supposed to.

if you feel like you're having trouble starting things, like you want to watch this anime, but only a few minutes in you feel like you can't focus on it, or that it deserves to have more of your attention: sometimes the answer to this is to just keep watching anyway. try to give it half the episode and if the feelings persist, come back to it in a different environment.

ultimately I think things like this take introspection a lot of the time. you may have to experiment to find out where the disconnect is, what's different from before.

To add in a recommendation, I always enjoy watching School Babysitters. it's a good, low-stakes anime, so maybe it will help you or someone else.

Naturally, anime has it own limitations. You don't have to stick to it. you had better enjoy other things or experience.

But, as a anime lover, I think you will come back enjoying anime, again.
Experience in your life will give you another perspective for enjoying anime too.

It’s been a long time since I last really watched anime. I don’t know when it happened, but over time I just lost interest. Even when I try to watch something, no matter how good it’s supposed to be, I end up feeling bored or just not into it.

I used to love anime and could watch for hours, but now I just can’t get that feeling back. It sucks because I miss enjoying it like I used to.

Has anyone else gone through this? How did you get back into it?
And if you have any recommendations that helped you fall in love with anime again, I’d really appreciate it.

You don't have to do anything. This is completely normal. I've been there so many times. Time will come when you will get interested again.

I suggest re-watching an anime that you used to sincerely love to see how it affects you.

If you’ve done that already, then maybe try watching an anime that you truly hated to see how that affects you.

If you’ve done that already, the try watching an anime that you’ve never seen before.

Keep in mind sometimes things in our lives will affect us, it could be the current life circumstances that are affecting your mood with anime.

If that doesn’t help, then just stop watching all together for a good long while, remember taking a break is good.

Sometimes we lose interest in things that we loved before, like writers or musicians having “writers block”, people just need time away from it to recapture the feelings and thoughts that they inspired them before.

If you are just not interested in it anymore, then it is not a problem, people grow out of these types of things.

But if you are really determined to get back into it despite your boredom and lack of interest, then you’ll just need to force yourself to watch until you find what you are looking for.

I hope things work out for you.

Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

take a break from anime if you aren't enjoying it as much, no need to force it and in the future if you get the spark to watch again then you'll have alot of new options from new seasons to pick up.

Don't watch one one kind of genre anime, try various types of anime. If it still doesn't work then switch to live action, watch 1 or 2 shows. And the best advise I could give is just stay away from anime or just otaku culture in general (on internet or discussions in chat) for around a month or two, then your burnout might get fixed.

The typical advice, would be to watch a varied amount of shows, like you privated your list, so I don't know the extent of your list, still it seems very recent, and not that varied. I was able to largely keep my interest in the medium, by becoming a bigger mecha anime fan, and getting more into older anime. Genre/demographic variety helps, and the fact I watch almost everything, keeps my interest going.

Still I am going through honestly a mini burnout right now. Mostly just because other hobbies, like sketching, reading (SF/F has been keeping my interest more than anime right now), gaming (playing the Ace Attorney games which is anime adjacent I suppose), gym/hiking, watching hockey (right now) are taking up my free time. On the other hand, yeah I just haven't found the will, which is fine. Get invested into other things, see if your interest comes back.

It's fine if it doesn't either, not everyone has to be a long term fan. I honestly thought I was done with the medium a long time ago, though I always keep coming back, so I probably am a long term fan. Honestly it's good to have "mini burnouts" when you don't watch much.

Move on, find other things to do. You'll either get the urge to watch anime again at some point or not, it's not worth stressing about when there are so many other fun (and more productive) things to do with your limited time.

I would say different, why dont u take a break instead? Take a few days off without watching Anime, u can do something else, make urself busy. For me, i used to be in the ssame situation as you, i came to MAL, ask pp how to gain my interest back. I thought that if i watch a lot of Anime, i can find a good one and find my interest back, but even when i tried to watch the anime pp recommended me, I still felt the same, nothing changed and i was still tired of Anime. So take a few days or maybe weeks off, then return, but dont rush, try to watch a few at first, maybe 2 or 3 anime a week. Watch lesser anime while doing other stuff.
Im a huge fan of Tatsuki Fujimoto and I have read all of his mangas, except this Fire Punch one. I dont know why, cause my fr recommended me not to read this manga cause its too pervert and sexual violence???. I really need some review from yall about this one. Cause it wouldn`t be fair to ignore one of Tatsuki's works.

Try taking a break. Take a week off of anime. If you miss something, you'll find that spark that brought you joy watching anime. Sometimes, we over stimulate on what we love, and we lose focus on why we enjoy anime in the first place. Taking a step back can help us to see clearly.

give anime some time, do other things..

I've completed 3 consecutive years of anime Challenges on the final tier (hyperlinks on my profile), around 200 series, sequels and movies in 3 years. A Lot of stuff.

after that, i gave like 4, 5 months of Detox watching 'real' movies and series.

Also, maybe find someone tô watch with you, in my oppinion, its almost always better to watch something with someone

This happened to me recently and I just recovered, I spent six months away from anime, watching a maximum of 5 episodes per month.
I think you don't need to like anime, respect yourself, watch an episode every now and then.
Someday you'll want to keep watching more and more, then you will feel back in the old days.

well for me i had to stop getting fomo for anime. i gained this mindset of having to consume everything and every new show and it really burned me out and made anime start to feel like a chore. the truth is you'll never have the time to watch everything so just slow it down and select the shows that you find the most interesting. you'll miss out on some things but thats life.

I have gone through something similar, but with video games. I have played more than 500 in my life, so you are bound to get sick of it at some point.

Watched a video about this phenomenon and it is somewhat common too. some recommendations i remember and ranked based on how useful i found them.

1. Try a different genre of anime. For instance, maybe start a slice of life if you are into shonen. Watch a trash isekai. Or perhaps start a shoujo if you are into seinen. Something that breaks through the cycle. This helped me a ton personally.

2. Watch anime in moderation or just stop completely with anime, or even quit social media/TV for some time. That time off can make all the difference.

3. Finish animes, no matter if you like or dislike them. Finishing something can help motivate watching other anime again. This one I found difficult but worked in the end I think.

4. Set some goals. Is there an anime you always wanted to watch? maybe it is the time to try it now.

5. Watch some older titles, that remind you of how you felt about anime wayyy back. That nostalgia can help get you back into it.

Found it, perhaps not all as relevant, but perhaps you get inspired.

I think maybe you can try something else other than the medium of anime possibly. Like try films or tv series for example, I think you’re just experiencing a burnout. I have that too occasionally. When you take a nice long break and miss the medium, you can try your favourites and rewatch them. Could break the fatigue or boredom every once in a while.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned it yet but do you scroll a lot? TikTok, IG, FB, Twitter, or YouTube etc.

If you use these as entertainment they might be the problem since they train your brain to want easy instant gratification.

Try not using them for a few days(long as possible to untrain your brain), then after that before going back to them watch an anime you are interested in. I bet you’ll find it way more enjoyable.

If that works for you then stay away from scrolling or do it minimally

I would say try cyberpunk edgerunners, or just rewatch some of your favorite anime. Sounds like an oxymoron, but you just force yourself to watch it (within reason, not hours a day) until you enjoy it again. It’s called behavioral activation OR just take a break. I’ve had years where I stopped watching as well.

Also, your experience of anime won’t be like it used to. You can’t feel that first experience again, that mindset can ruin every hobby.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

You’re going through an anime burnout like I did this Christmas, I just didn’t watch any anime for two months and carried on reading manga. That kept me interested in the stories but excluded from the media format.

In my case I was binging the shit out of everything watching only anime like averaging probably 12-14 episodes a day and deliberately watching stuff I wasn’t even enjoying either to say I’d finished it and rank it, or because it’s an anime “you just have to watch”. Now I’m watching the shit I really wanna watch and when I wanna take a break from something even mid season or either three episodes left I just put it on hold and get back to it when I want to.

In terms of getting back into it. For me there was still stories I wanted to know but just couldn’t get motivated to watch the anime and so I just simple waited till something gave me a serious urge to watch it. In my case it was reading a new chapter or blue box and then having the urge to get back into the anime where I’d left off. Then I caught up on the inter anime I’d started but couldn’t get through cos of the burnout and I was just back in. Don’t get me wrong my first year of anime which was last year was definitely a honeymoon phase as is the same with any hobby or interest. I don’t have a desire to watch anything and everything anymore and sometimes I don’t feel like it all so I don’t watch anything for a few days. But thing still catch my eye and I’m now confidently back into enjoying anime that I really want to watch which is what I should’ve done in the first place.

Sorry for the long winded para 🥴😂.

i went through this for about 3 years, even now its still there just a lot less. i've come to accept that i will likely never be as into anime as i was when i was 14-15, but i still enjoy it. something i realized when i began watching again that the reason i couldn't sit through anything was because i was still trying to find anime from the genres 14 year old me loved (i was a huge shounen fan), but now i'm more into sol or romance and that has helped a lot in finding shows that i enjoy watching. experiment a bit with genres you have never touched, you might find something you really enjoy.

I started watching anime in 2020, and averaged 2-3 episodes a day for 3 years. after that it became more difficult to find shows i enjoyed, and that average has dropped closer to 2-3 episodes a week. it could be that you are having a harder time finding shows that hook you from the beginning and that's totally normal in my experience.

another comment said to force yourself, and I think this is actually pretty good advice. several shows I thought were boring at first became some of my favorites. in fact I don't think I would've watched as much anime as I did if I hadn't forced myself to sit through the first 10 episodes of steins;gate. that series showed me how good the anime medium could be. and several shows I forced myself to sit through reinvigorated my interest by their end.

try sitting through a critically acclaimed series that you think is boring and see what happens, this may do the trick

I felt the same for the past year. Don’t beat yourself up about it, I think it’s natural when you endulge yourself so much in something you enjoy and also we just change as a person ! Don’t force yourself to love it as much as you did, take a step away and just ease back into it eventually. Personally I stopped watching anime for more than a year because of the same reason as you but a friend gave me a awesome recommendation recently and I found myself watching all 24 episodes in two days and had a blast doing it:) moderation is key as they say I guess ?

Here's what I recommend, variety. 'Variety is the spice of life' as they say at least. I believe in trying most things even if you think you won't like them. I also believe it is state of mind when going into something.

Try all genres and don't go for the anime widely recommend cause I'll admit this loud and proud. A good majority of the anime community has shit taste and if they don't have shit taste they are bad at recommending anime for some reason.

I say go for stuff you wouldn't normally try and try going in with a different mindset as well that may help and if not give anime/animation a break for a bit and come back later and see if that helps. Nothing wrong with that.

We all fall in and out of love with something in our life. Sometimes we return to it and sometimes we don't.
