Kaoru doesn't count as a cute waifu?

You could, but she never was presented or used as such in the series (until the Kamiya Dojo Monogatari Novels), even if it was Watsuki's intention.
The fandom also has her image of the 1996 Anime in mind, in which she's a badass tsundere rather than a lonely young woman.

Foremost, I don't consider myself a big fan of Rurouni Kenshin expect for the Trust and Betrayal OVAs which I consider a standalone masterpiece. Now back to the anime reboot I don't understand why many fans are complaining this was a faithful panel by panel adaptation which make it more valuable compared to the old anime, many scenes were animate for the first time and censorship was lifted.

@Jirokissaw

because this season was overall not interesting. sure it took chapters from the manga. but just because they are from the manga does not make them interesting. most of the episodes are manga-fillers. stand alone stories that dont go anywhere. the opioum arc was extreamly short with terrible battle scenes. then they started going into single episodes stories again. boring.

@Videogamecoper That unfortunately is just how the first season is. It's the classic wandering samurai trope (except he's no longer wandering) so it will always have the short arcs and one-off episodes. These episodes build the world and set up the characters.

The last two episodes were good. But I didn't care for the rest.
It's hard to see a remake for older series that are adapted "well", that should be improved and get a different pacing.
Yes, we liked to see characters eat ramen, fold cloths, go fishing etc back in the days, but now it just feel out of place and returning viewers have seen this multiple times already.
It was interesting back in the 90s.

Kaoru was not able to fix Kenshin, and I feel so bad for her. The original Hitokiri is returning to face what seems to be his final opponent; his successor to the title of Hitokiri Battosai. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Kaoru/Rie Takahashi's last "Ken-shin!" was utterly heart-breaking. I know some people knoick the animation of this adaptation, but I found it more than okay. But even if it had been less good, I feel the Japanese voice acting has really carried this series remarkably well.

Really loved this anime, a new understanding of Edo period, meiji era and little of Japanese history. Really liked ideology clash in this anime. Damn they don't make shonen like this anymore, I felt like recent one's are just filled with brainrot and cringe

no doubt this version annhilate the original and the only ones who say otherwise are people who are bound by nostalgia. the origin episodes of sanuske werent even in the original. this one is like the manga page to page. the 96 version is not loyal to the manga. the final battle against shishio is not even on a ship. even the live action was better

@Abomination_suah me too. but tell me something. how do you feel about the fantasy elements? would you rather see a more realistic down to earth version?

I didn't have high expectations for this remake after my experience with the first anime adaptation. But this was a good season. Especially for it being a precursor to Makoto Shishio's introduction which I'm more excited to see. The pacing wasn't bad and the animation for the fights were decent overall.
