Holy shit. This show is trash. I almost never do this, but I had to watch the second half of this episode at 2x speed. I just couldn't take it anymore.
We all knew it would end this way but it literally makes no sense. They barely know each other. They've been on 3 pseudo-dates. They've barely even talked. Yet they're getting married anyway. The whole point was for love to bloom during the ruse, not for it to just be announced out of nowhere. Why even bother apologizing to their coworkers if it's real again? What about their boss' daughter? Didn't they start the show saying the guy who opened the Tahiti branch still couldn't come back to his family in Japan? Why even send someone who isn't fluent in English anyways? Wouldn't George be the obvious pick? Wouldn't Rika enjoy hiking in Alaska? Can't Akuya just bring his cat? The premise doesn't make sense.
Basically nothing happened in this show. Their parents were massive dicks. Akuya's dad is a douche. Rika's mom left her home alone every day instead of splitting visitation with her father. Beyond that we learn next to nothing about Akuya. He collects spices I guess, and all of these people make no money but go on expensive vacations every year.
Aren't these people freaking adults? There's something to be said about arrested development, but you can't even use the bathroom in the same house? You can't borrow someone else's shower? You can't just put your futon on the floor, you have to sleep in a tent?
Takuya is a coward. He keeps letting Rika walk away without doing or saying anything. But at least there are moments when he tries, and he is generally attempting to consider her feelings. Rika is just a massive cunt. I'm supposed to feel sorry for the female with a history of ghosting every guy that ever showed interest in her? The girl who will sit there in silence for literal hours, disappear for days without replying, purposely organize a "date" to be as obnoxious and inconsiderate to the other party as possible, constantly try to push people away, and genuinely outright REFUSES to even attempt to communicate? No. This bitch is human garbage. She may be pretty, but she's a terrible person.
I swear, it got to the point where I was responding to their inner monologues with, "It doesn't matter. Go anyway. Just say that. Literally say anything. Just show up. Etc." There are limits. Even extremely awkward and antisocial people have some inkling on how to interact with others. And even if you don't, being bluntly honest is always an actual option. Just spill out the word salad in your head until something makes vague sense and keep answering follow-up questions until you reach an understanding. If the other person isn't interested in hearing you out, fuck them anyway.
The only person I feel bad for is Gonda. Like holy hell. Dude is the representation of the average guy attempting to date. He finally meets a girl he's interested in. Turns out she's a single mom (again where's the dad). He decides to go for it anyway, and he still gets rejected. Like ouch.
Episode 11 should have been episode 2. They should have completely ditched the parts with their parents. They added absolutely nothing. Instead of stopping and starting like a teenage romance, each episode should have been devoted to couple time. They should have been forced to move in together right away, which would have led to them awkwardly spending more and more time together. That's what the show's summary billed itself as. Instead we get Rika being angry Akuya isn't a mind-reader and constantly pushing him away. I have absolutely no sympathy for her. She deserves to die alone.
2/10. Let Akuya hook up with Nao instead. Hell, let him be in an affair with the boss. Any of the cute girls instead of Rika. Throw in random siscon at the last minute, just don't waste his life by guaranteeing a divorce with this bitch. |
