Why are the anime visuals and scenes so pitch dark? I can barely see what's happening in some scenes, they should light a candle or something. I don't think it's something wrong with my TV, since everything else is normal

Same I love this show but that's bothering me also, every time there's a scene at night I have to turn the brightness on my TV all the way up just to see what's going on

Someone already asked this question.

It’s night time in the 15th century, of course it’s going to be dark.

It’s an artistic decision. What’s happening is dark literary and figuratively, contrast to the bright starry sky.

It works, it’s how the makers want you to watch it. You definitely shouldn’t alter you brightness, just watch it in a dark room

I agree it's to immerse with the time period, which didn't have many means of producing light at night. It's additionally a symbolism of the darkness the church is keeping the world in and to contrast with the light of the stars that hold the truth.

You’re probably watching an overly compressed source. The difference between Netflix’s video for this show at 1080p vs 720p (the max you get in browsers) makes the dark scenes so blocky they are noticeably harder to see what is going on. I can only imagine pirate streaming sites are even worse.

Oh, pirate streaming sites nowadays wipe the floor with legal stream services.

I thought it was obvious they want us to pay more attention to starry night and want us to feel the middle ages vibes.

Why do people complain? When they story is literally peak

I never paid any attention or it never really was notable for me until I seen people making threads about it. too invested in the story to notice

Watching on Abema (as some are saying it might be the service used) I have absolutely no issue (And I watch only animes cuz I think most dramas are too dark on screen I can barely see anything). Yes the night scenes are a bit darker but in these scenes you are not supposed to be focused on what you see but on what you hear so it doesn't really seem to hinder the experience

I get the purpose, but it’s still pretty bad. They could’ve gotten a similar effect by just muting the color palette more, rather than turning the entire luminance all the way down and obscuring detail work.

The darkness is fine by me if it didnt bring out all the pixilation in the video quality cause of streaming sites, this will probably look perfectly fine on blu ray.

Sad taste you have there kid you came up to me in the first place making you look more like a kid who got slapped without me even knowing it and start crying about it to me
