Togata said that he believed the afterlife would be like a cinema. At the end of Fire Punch, Agni and "Luna" survive until the heat death of the universe... and wake up in a cinema. It's kinda easy to understand once you remember Togata's words

Seems to me that the ending was some sort of optimistic nihilism evidently. Two main characters who were forced to play different roles in their lives constantly underwent despair and tragedy, losing many precious things to them. After billions of years of suffering and loneliness, they somehow bump into each other amid the void of the heat death universe. They had a brief moment of comfort when talking and embracing in each other's arms, then soon after fell into a peaceful sleep. It means two things. One presents humans' inmost desire to be loved and cherished by someone else. The second is raison d'etre, you will continue to exist as long as there's a reason, a purpose to carry on.
Btw, not sure if it's a coincidence or Fujimoto's intention but I found his panels drew some similarities to those of the Manga Phoenix by Osamu Tezuka

Dude. Don't bother. "What was the ending?" Dogshit. Doesn't matter. Irrelevant manga. Keep reading peak piece.
