Have you read Hibari? Despite the manga’s age, Hibari absolutely reads as a trans character. She may not literally face the reader and say “I am a transgender woman” but she does repeatedly throughout the manga assert that she is a woman. You can argue intention, but I’d say at a certain point death of the author comes into play here. Hibari lives her daily life as a woman, sees herself as a woman, and hates being called a man. Even if she was not written with the intention of being a trans character, trans woman is a much closer description to how she is written than anything else.
