I think its a pretty bad show if you don't find it funny.
I didn't find it funny or entertaining, I'm not into generic stuff even if its supposed to be a parody

I've watched dozens of isekai like this already with the same characters and tropes. These characters and tropes are not good. Making them over-the-top and "satirical" does not suddenly turn bad tropes and characters into good tropes and characters just because it's satire. Not to mention it takes itself way too seriously at this point to be considered satire. It's fun junk food anime to turn your brain completely off to and watch without investing anything into it, but other than that, it's a pretty terrible show through-and-through. Making it "satire" just allows studios to churn out the same absolute garbage and change it slightly to make it "satirical" without having to actually come up with anything new and unique, it's very lazy. Making a "satirical" isekai is similar to ending a series with the "it was all a dream" trope, it's an easy excuse.

I'm not exactly a hater of this show, but I'm not a big fan either. It's been alright, and pretty enjoyable for the most part. But there are major issues I had with it:

- Ep 1 sets up a plot that I'd be way more interested in, only to turn it to a parody. I think many felt the same, so it takes a while for the disappointment to go away.
- Cid's friends aren't the "so bad that they're good", but just plain bad. They're also pretty despicable tbh.
- 7 Shadows being giga simps got old very quickly.
- Season 2 actually tried to get in some serious moments, but they weren't that great. So they felt like a waste, when they could be scrapped or used for comedy. That random fanservice episode in the middle of the season completely ruined the momentum they had as well.
- Some of the comedy lands (like misunderstandings and Mundane Man), but some of it doesn't (mob character and Epsilon's existence)

Beyond that, I think the plot has been pretty good so far as they discover the origins of the world and what not. Pretty much every character from the Academy has been good as well. Overall, I'd give the show a 7.6/10 which is pretty decent imo. (First season was 8/10 tho).

I fell out of the show when his fan cult ruined the tone of him downplaying his abilities. Him getting a harem fanclub made it feel like any other isekai. I like ecchi, but the mc really is bland as bread. Can't act like a side character when every girl wants to hop on him and literally no one outside of his harem and him can fight well at all. So many isekais feel like the same cheat stories over again; and the parody means little when all major events are taken as seriously as any other isekai. The greatest sin of all the show was the lack of interesting villains. I can not even recall 1 of them or a decent reason for their action.

maybe because people expected an isekai but in reality it's only an isekai for 1 episode, after that the whole isekai thing doesn't matter lol
@ecksdee58

That's like 80% of isekais tho. And it kinda does matter like the teachings to the 7 Shadows, his ultimate ability, and lack of regard for this world. Also, the whole currency arc was impossible if it wasn't an isekai.

A masterpiece of a setting, a wonderful isekai world in what seems to be the Industrial Revolution era, an interesting plot surrounding the emergence and conflict of this Cult of Diablos, the rise of Shadow Garden from a clandestine organization to becoming an emerging global power, ridiculously overpowered and indisputably edgy yet cool Shadow Persona that Cid depicts, interesting arrays of characters...

Eminence in the Shadow got it all but they fall really short in some instances that may or may not have to do with the anime adaptation itself...

  • We were given no time to be familiar with the 7 shadows, the most pivotal figure of Shadow Garden and quite literally the poster girls of this show in general
  • We were given an incredibly rushed upbringing and virtually no explanation for Cid's rise to such a degree
  • Cid is being a chuunibyou who fucks around with his so-called NPC roleplay not fully realizing that all the things that are happening is REAL
  • Lack of focus on the first season on Shadow Garden itself
  • Yet again, the fact that Cid is so disattached from reality and the events that surround him, bro is the supreme leader of Shadow Garden and still thinks it's some sort of grand roleplay

I don't have many gripes, mediocre animation and lacklustre visuals need not be mentioned for that is too general and typical of a complaint, I just want the above-mentioned list to be explored more.
