Why didn't the Mad Mage do this?

Wasn't the room supposed to crush them and they were just saved instead?

You can't really have a show if the villain kills off the MCs the first chance they get. It's just a troupe villain that shows it all powerful and then leaves. Even if it was the perfect opportunity to get rid of the opposition. I know it doesn't make sense, but it's very common.

@WestOnAndrewAve yep the mad mage power is about controlling the dungeon so he is using the dungeon to kill them so i guess the mad mage has no direct attacks of his own

@Ba-Cii10 i think its just hindsight bias for you there surely at that time he wanted to kill them but later on choose to crush them underneath the dungeon instead when he put them on the hole

I know that your question is focused on the mage's appearance with the Yaad, but think part of the problem you may be having here is that you aren't seriously considering what the first encounter with the mage conveys about his character.

In that first encounter, it is made pretty apparent that he simply doesn't consider the party a meaningful threat to him, and even as he turns Falin into the chimera, he speaks only to the dragon. He's obsessively focused on in a singular goal and doesn't seem to consider it worth his time or effort to kill them in that moment.

Given that the mage is so clearly directing all of his attention toward finding something, his dismissive attitude toward the party makes sense to me, and it also makes sense that he would show up to the preserved Golden Country too late to encounter them.

You're also forgetting that it has become clear that some other power in the dungeon seems to be aiding Laios and his party as they venture deeper. Despite how powerful the mage is, and he is certainly extremely powerful, I don't think it would be accurate to say he is "all-powerful".

@mithoy I would like to point out that I watched all the episodes only once on the day of the premiere, so I really don't remember everything. Your answer makes sense and I could accept it but... I will continue to pursue this topic because why not haha.

1-I remember that the mad magician noticed Laios and was disturbed by him because he had seen him at various points in King Delgal's life, if the mad magician was so obsessively looking for Delgal, why didn't he link this disappearance to Laios and treat Laios as a clue that would help find him the king? "He's obsessively focused on one goal and it doesn't seem like it's worth his time or effort to kill them at this point" I don't think that's true since he attacked our heroes... whatever, it's not my opinion anyway problem.

2-Honestly, I don't like the fact that the Mad Mage was a second late and therefore didn't do anything to our heroes, I don't understand the point of this scene, if it wasn't there it probably wouldn't have changed anything, but this is how we got this a super happy coincidence that saves our heroes. If the magician is interested in the intruders in this golden land, it means that he is not only thinking about the search for Delgal and he should do something with Laios and the others, if not then then in the future episodes, if not himself, at least he should send some monster. Due to his inaction, the victory of Laios and the rest will be unsatisfying imo, just like in The Boys where you feel that Homelander should have ended it a long time ago xD

3-Another power of the dungeon... I know what you mean because I have spoilers from the manga but in this case this power didn't matter (from what I remember) this power helped more in other cases, the sword warned about threats and that's it, unless you mean something else. If he can control the dungeons and the action takes place in the dungeons, it seems to me that he is all-powerful there, or at least he should be since he is the ruler of it all, in this case we don't have enough information, I guess.
