THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
The information delivery in this episode is extremely sloppy. So there was a large armed independence movement on Deloyer this entire time? Why didn't the audience get to know about this? We're seven episodes in!

This actually makes what Donan is doing much more understandable. If there's a movement apparently determined to seize independence through force of arms, this situation was always going to end up in war, so what he's done is merely make the first move against existing enemies. Given that what he said about Earth's need for Deloyer's resources (and it's food he was talking about, not just something to make money off of), I can't fault him for not wanting people hostile to Earth to seize control.

If this show is trying to make me sympathetic to the rebels, it's failing pretty badly. Why do they even want independence? Why is being a member of the Federation so bad? Isn't being a member better than being a colony like they were before the coup? The coup seems like a downright compromise between Earth's need to prevent Deloyer becoming a rival and Deloyer's (apparent) discontent with the lack of rights being a colony entails.

Crinn's starting to annoy me as well.

It has escalated fast. In the end, the reason for changing sides seems to be that 1) They don't take him seriously, (of course, he's still a child, although with what he's shown they should treat him like an adult, now)
2) The brutality of the armed forces. This theme is universal. Who doesn't side with the protesters who, once surrendered, are mistreated? Surprising about the journalist and his connection with the leader. I was thinking about why I was going to show my secret weapon to my enemy's son. But you're right. Especially since the rebels, no matter how much he says, are clearly inferior and having an asset like him can turn the tables. If they're already lost, this won't do much damage.
As for the strategy, the father's strategy seems good to me, but it is a double-edged sword, because it can unite the native people against the "invaders". But not necessarily, although it seems that is what will end up happening.
Being in an enemy base, will he just let him go? Will you let him stay with them for a while? What exactly will happen? Or simply because of the speed of events, he will be "forced" to lead the special unit MECA.
It continues to amaze me how little control you have over your son. The father, if he wanted to educate him, would have him listening to high-level meetings. In such an important family, where everything seems to be controlled as well.

Totally agree with Crinns. Is like he has to do everything by himself, not trying to understand rationally the things, just action and action. 0 thinking. Though this leads to more evolution to characther.

On the other side, there are always uprising in new conquered territorioes. Its normal if they wanna have a seat on the Federation, specially if they are that important regarding some products (specially food). You did explained very well all the things regarding the coup. We didnt have that information, but it could be "Extracted". For moments i thought the gang of 5-6 members were spies, or at least Rocky the spy, but it seems it all went natural.
