You'll notice that it's a very common thing among mage clans to have a goal pertaining to changing reality in some way that would be impossible without heavily altering reality. Changing demi humans, changing perception of humans towards demi humans, changing all humans, changing a part of humanity, changing the fauna or flora, etc. Some of those wishes are passed down the clan generations of mages after generations, sometimes for more than a millennia. And just like Milligan created the first talking troll and is not done yet, Darius Grenville would have continued to progress towards his goal if he hadn't been assassinated. You'll notice how Oliver didn't point out that it was impossible or stupid. Because it's neither for them. They really probably can do it if a mage clan put enough time and effort towards that goal. I've seen anime watchers get mad at Katie for being idealist and wanting things that cannot happen in reality. That's wrong, again. She's a mage. From a pretty infamous clan too, as you can tell from Darius' reaction to the Aalto name.
