Website (often) becomes unresponsive when trying to quote/reply to comments where an original comment has been quoted several times, by multiple users.

So, I believe that I've had this issue since the quote rework, however long ago that was, I've just been ignoring it. There's no issue quoting a "naked" comment, but if the comment contains several "layers" of quotes, and I simply try to quote said comment and reply normally, it's likely that it will either take a while just to post a reply or it will freeze up in the middle of typing one out. In that case, I'll get an error in Chrome saying the website is unresponsive, and while Edge works a bit better, it can also lock up and become unresponsive. My internet speed shouldn't be any issue whatsoever, and updating Chrome didn't have any noticeable affect. From what I can see no one else is really having this issue, so I'm not sure why that quote update/rework broke things for me.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Seeeing the same issue. The call stack is so insane that Chrome is lagging out when loading the performance profile (which is ~250MB itself for just one single freeze) lmao
Someone forgot to optimize their code 😂😂😂
The issue is easily reproducible on both Chromium-based browsers as well as Firefox. Freezes take over a minute to resolve (using Ryzen 5 5600X with 96GB RAM—didn't care to wait long enough on mobile to find out the number with worse performance).

I'm pretty sure it's badly optimized scripts but here are some things you can try that might or might not solve it:

- clear cache and cookies

- disable all browser extensions and scripts

- block scripts with an extension like NoScript (not sure how well MAL works without scrips tho)

- start Chrome as administrator

- create a new empty Chrome profile

- reinstall Chrome

- try a different Chrome version e.g. nightly builds or Chromium

- scan your system for programs that use too much memory

- scan your system for malware etc

Maybe any of that helps somehow.

I think maybe just clearing cookies/cache actually fixed it, I was just convinced it had to be someone on MAL's end due to the timing. lol
