| The main cast is so bland, the only way we can recognise Gabimaru is because he has a wife. That's it. He's just a typical emotionless cold ninja that also happens to be quite OP. There's rarely any character development for this guy because the series would rather take its time on showing: 1. The side characters with the most obvious tropes and cliches on the planet. Your same old sibling complex, simpletons, and traps. WHICH ended up being more interesting to watch than the MAIN cast. How did it screw up that part? 2. Spreading its own lore in the most blandest way possible. The visuals for the lore are great, but just sitting through the episode nothing but exposition dialogues, I can easily get the same experience from reading a wiki page or watching a video about the lore. 3. The flashbacks have started to get on my nerves. How can you manage to put the same old flashback that literally happened a day ago over 5 times as we forgot? Because the flow of the story is pretty slow, the flashbacks ended up being a nuisance, it feels like they're telling us we have short-term memory loss. |

The story is not about the elixir, that’s the background goal. The real story is about how Sagiri and Gabimaru affect one another to change from how they were in Life, actually strengthening each other and learning to trust each other, despite being guard and dangerous killer. Sagiri was too set in her ways as being strict on herself and others, which others point out as “being by the book”, and that is annoying, but there is a lot more to her character development than that. |
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating. |
