and hange didnt hold a grudge on him for that, she perfectly understood he did the right thing and even said that loud.

why do people like floch
on short he's just the goat, a true hero that the Eldian empire needed, unlike Eren or Armin or others he's not doing what he's doing for selfish or ulterior reasons or for their ego, he's just a young soldier who proudly sacrifices his live to protect his people cause he gone thought hell already and saw many people die, he only wants to protect his country and a better future for the future generations, and he gave his everything till last moment, not for himself but for the people of eldia. It's easy to not see it when you watch the enemies from the eyes of mikasa and armin, but Floch did nothing wrong, if anything he deservers a statue after the war is over

I kinda love him for that. He made Hange create one of the best and saddest scene in the whole show. Respect Floch ๐Ÿซก

See that’s the thing. You’re asking something that ppl are gonna give pointless answers to. Just like you said, there’s plenty of ppl who simply like or dislike a character for absolutely no reason. They just do. I don’t think you need a reason to like/dislike them either. But even if they give you reasons, you’re probably gonna disagree with such reasons. Most likely though you’re gonna end up in a debate with some random person and insults will be thrown in. Just trying to give you advice on that as it’s happened to me a lot, so I just stopped bothering ig. But you do you.

I really hated him at first, he was a coward during the whole Erwin situation to many and I saw him as an asshole for a majority of final season who was blindly following Eren. I really liked his character when he took on all the characters and two titans which was a ballsy change and it was revealed that Eren actually did speak in personal with him. I think his death was great as it was unexpected, he definitely left his mark at least for me. Sad that Hange and many others had to suffer because of him tho
As Long as the Sun, the moon, and the Earth exist, everything will be alright.

I totally get you bro, I didnt really saw Floch as the king he is till season 4 either. It is a bit sad that his goals were in direct opposition with the main characters but we needed a character like him, i dont think many other characters could've taken the role of antagonist and inspire such motivation at the same time, in a way I think Floch was kinda like Erwin but on the other side of war.

I think hate is the wrong word. I don’t think you’ll find anyone saying he’s not a well written character with a lot of depth if you’re willing to look. He’s a villain, he’s a bad guy. That’s why people don’t like him, his ideals are monstrous. Though, anyone who doesn’t like him as a character is wrong.

Because he’s a fascist. Hange never said he was doing the right thing, more that he may be right that genocide is the only path for Eldian survival but she never agrees with it.

From a viewers standpoint it’s easy to say that but if the entire world turned on your country and said they would kill all of you would you really just be ok with it? Could everyone who thinks this really say they would choose to let their friends and family die over eliminating all the other countries that threaten them?

Although nobody can ever in a trillion billion years replace Erwin Floch was
1. prepared to become the devil for the good of his people, like Erwin.
2. A true patriot to the end and died doing what he believed in, like Erwin.
3. A true leader when he needed to be one, just like Erwin.
His character is intriguing, and he's basically Erwin 2.0 which is why I love Floch's writing. I wish he could've gone with a bigger bang tbh.

Look nobody is justifying global genocide except delusional Erehisu shippers and Gigachad Eren-stans. Just because someone's acts have concrete reasons doesn't necessarily mean it's a good act
'Genocide is bad' (RIP Hange), Indeed it is but the way it's done in the show you can't really complain when 'bad' things are being done. It feels way too relatable to fight fire with fire because believe me most of us wouldn't just be like 'lets be diplomatic' when our people are being treated like pigs.
Atleast for me, I support Eren but I don't support Genocide, but I'm not against it either.
Also what was the point in saying this here anyways? Floch was a brilliantly written character smh.

Uh I read that many times over. I still don't get your point. I support Eren as a character. He Has the power, he has solid reasons and he has a goal, so it makes perfect sense for him to do genocide. Except Genocide isn't the best possible thing to happen, but based on his trauma and the shit he went through, I don't think I'll be willing to write it off as just 'bad'

But in the world of attack on titan it was exactly this way. Their only option on that island was to kill or be killed the world did not give them another choice. The reason Zeke’s plan sucked was because assuming everything actually works out the way Zeke intended that race of people still goes extinct. On the topic of the original post based on their logic if you support zeke you support genocide because an entire race still goes extinct with his plan.

I just don't think that he's a good character, his development was off-screen so in S4 he just suddenly came out of nowhere, acting like a douchebag and having a superiority complex, everything felt very sudden, just bad first impressions overall, and his unlikable personality doesn't help either, he literally either kills or beats up anyone who disagrees with him, I can't understand why people like him that much to be honest.

In all likelihood I think OP is more against mass killings because you can say 99% rumbling is technically "not genocide", just depopulation. Doubt OP would find this acceptable either.

I like floch because at this point he was the only character who had a one single goal. While others only keeping questioning their own action at once every 5 min."I will save the world, I talk to eren and bring him, I will kill eren and I'm the murderer". This is armin don't know a damn what he is doing.

But floch only wants to protect his people and doesn't bitch about it like other characters.

People lack the media literacy to be able to dislodge their personal feelings from the actions of a fictional character. They get too attached, so to speak. Characters serve a function in storytelling and nothing else. The whole point is that they aren't real people but rather mechanisms which an author uses to convey a message or an experience. But then people go unhinged and become too emotionally involved with what's going on in the screen. So they'll go "liking" or "disliking" characters as if it had anything to do with them.

The situation was either "kill or be killed" for the people in Paradis.

It's thanks to Marley and its propaganda, that most of the people in the "world", whenever they think of Eldia, they think of "the devils"; let's not forget who were the ones sending, for over plus one hundred of years, man-eating Titans into the Paradis Island to basically "erase" the Eldians.

Marley, and to a less extent the other nations as seen in "Declaration of War", was actively trying to erradicate a race of "innocent" people that were no longer part of the "deadly and man-killer Eldian Empire" anymore-they were a bunch of people, just chilling on their Island living unknowingly there even was a world beyond the Walls, thanks to King Karl Fritz and the Founding Titan powers.
But eh, because we only see Eren giving Marley and the rest what they gave Paradis for over 100 years, he is the goddamn Devil himself, and all that he cares is genocide, right? And just because Mr. Floch Foster is defending his own Nation and People, just as Marley and everyone else does, he's seen as a freaking Fascist! Let's clearly NOT remember the beginning of S4, where Marley were attacking and killing people of another Nation to just conquer its LAND, even using the Armoured Titan and a bunch of Pure Titans in the process... Yeah, Floch, the reincarnation of the Mr. Toothbrush Moustache!

And even if Eren went with the Armin-way of doing the "Rumbling", they'd "un-arm" Marley and most of the nations in the world...which would basically lead to kill people, just to proctect themselves from the world; not to mention that "leaving the other nations alive" would, eventually, end up in a War to, then again, "kill all the Eldians" because of FEAR for a possible "Rumbling" that could kill everyone, just as Eren planned, and being the main reason of why Marley kept actively trying to get rid of Eldians, whereas by sending Titans to Paradis, or the whole "Warriors" Operation that was to retake the Founding Titan.

Heck, even the Marleyans at the Fort Salta acknowledged that the whole Rumbling situation was their own fault, that they were the responsibles for creating such hate against Eldians-making it a pretty huge snowball that resulted in a mass-killing situation, for both of the sides.

For the record, I don't really care about Floch one way or another (actually more confused why so many people love and hate him so much).

As far as your statement goes, I think you'd be surprised at how many people and nations would realistically choose their own people and country if faced with a real choice of "Our entire country and people is eradicated, or the entire rest of the world is." I agree with you that I don't believe it's right or just, but on average, most people don't give a damn that their new shoes were made by child slaves in another country. "Out of sight, out of mind," as they say. If there's such little compassion (we'll at least say genuine, tangible compassion that gets them to change their behavior in one way or another) for such a vain and petty thing, then it's difficult to expect anything better when the choice is "kill or be killed."

So I can't justify it, no. Not to myself and not to you, neither of which are in such dire straights. Could I see someone justify it to themselves in such a situation? Yeah, sadly.

There are no mental gymnastics you can possibly do to justify global genocide.
Welp, that's a pretty "lalala I don't hear what you're saying lalala" moment- ๐Ÿ’€

I guess that's what I get for expecting a reasonable answer to the amount of reasons I gave you of why you could, to a certain degree, "justify" whatever Eren and the Yeagerist were doing-but then again, you decided to not answer back any of these, maybe because there was no point because I was 100% right, or maybe because you just couldn't think a way to explain me why I am wrong. :)

For the record: I wouldn't listen to a Nazi explaining why Jews had to die as well.
Sorry for NOT being a sociopath.

From a viewers standpoint it’s easy to say that but if the entire world turned on your country and said they would kill all of you would you really just be ok with it? Could everyone who thinks this really say they would choose to let their friends and family die over eliminating all the other countries that threaten them?
I am not sure if genocide is actually ever the answer. The issue here is that problems like generational hatred cannot be solved in the real world with a Code Geass Zero's gambit that happen to include killing most of the population. You cannot just magically solve racism in a day, especially with global genocide. Like there's too many variables.

When the world of Attack on Titan is as detailed as it is and mirror events in our own world, it is only natural and fitting that we apply real world logic to it as well. So yeah, I think Eren's plan is ridiculously simplistic for how complex its own world is. It's like  the film Zootopia, which was a film also about racism; they couldn't solve racism, but they could not end the film without a victory, so here's us taking down a sheep supremacist and calling it a day. I don't envy Isayama here; there really was no satisfying ending that could have been written that conclusively conclude an issue that the real world has failed to solve.

In any case, I'll try to answer your question. I don't necessarily blame people for wanting to defend themselves, and to an extent I don't "blame" Eren for doing what is best to ensure the survival of his people. If I were him, I might have done something pretty drastic. That does not mean I should see myself as right, but that I am merely weak and biased towards my own survival. If we demand morality be impartial with regards to our own interests versus that of the world, then on a purely ethical level, both utilitarian and Kantian ethics, you cannot justify global genocide.

You can sympathize with both sides, and that's the point. That doesn't mean you think one of them is completely justified. Honestly? I might be selfish if it require if to save the world I had to sacrifice someone I loved, but that is me being aware of my own interests, not that of the world. Putting aside my own interests, two things come to mind. The life of one person outweighs that of the many, and I don't have the right to simply exterminate everyone in some bizarre case of not self-defense.

king floch doesn't deserve the hate, people who hate him don't understand his perspective and are way too sensitive and why are people so worried about genocide, not like it's happening in real life, it's an anime we can get more entertainment by the rumbling.

I'm pretty sure the hate he gets comes from people who don't really care for characters aside from their personal surface level "likability". They don't care for their character arcs, development or story.

Oh, yeah. Because the "Nazis" were clearly in the very exact same situation of the "Devils of Paradis", right. Not like the "Nazis" held the very same "hatred" over the Jews like Marley had over Eldians, nor both "Nazis" and Marley were actively trying to erradicate both Jews/Eldians.

Ah, and for the "record": I'm a Jew, from a surviving-Holocaust family. I know very well (from kin) how it feels to be treated like the worst, and being hunt, humiliated and killed just because of who I am. :)

Don’t get me wrong, Floch’s either my favorite or second favorite character in AoT, but I absolutely understand why people dislike him. I don’t think there should be much debate about him being a good character, but being a good character and being likeable aren’t completely the same. Floch just comes off as a dick, and he does go too far with his actions a lot of the time, which, to be fair, I think is the point of his character.
