Smasher tells David that he could be a good candidate for an Engram. In the game Johnny Silverhand is an Engram which is a chip that can store human consciousness. So I think they stored his consciousness into an Engram and will be resurrected in the future like Silverhand.

if there ever is another season, I'd expect it to have a different set of characters, maybe connected in some way to the still-living characters. I don't really see any way in which David could've survived though...the story *is* a tragedy after all

It does not matter. If they wanted to do another season, nothing stands in the way of resurrecting it in some magical and at the same time inexplicable way. Let's not forget that this is the Cyberpunk universe, so there are plenty of such possibilities, such as the transfer of his remaining consciousness to another manufactured body.

Why are people coping so hard? Of course he is dead, even if Adam Smasher were to spare him, he would have most likely became a construct (what Johnny Silverhand became in the game) we should all just accept that everyone but Falco and Lucy are indeed dead, did we want an ending like this? No because it broke us, but it is the ending we need to accept and in reality, the only one that made some form of sense.

I know it was a painful journey, but the whole theme of Edgerunners is the tragedy of David and the others who die from the crew. There is also the fact that the OP tells us from the get go that the show ends with his death.

A slightly more rambly bit from me, I get people in fandoms get super attached to their favorite characters, but sometimes, it serves the story better when they die (and stay dead), because oftentimes, their death pushes the story forward or teaches the main character a lesson/has a quantifiable impact on them that would be totally lessened if they were to "come back" or weren't actually dead.

He’s definitely dead. Like if it makes you happier you can pretend he’s still alive but seeing as there’s no point to a sequel David being alive also serves no purpose

I don't pay attention to wikis solely for that reason, but the evidence that he is dead is irrefutable, we saw Adam Smasher shoot him apart, he has a drink named after him in the afterlife in the game, and if he were to be alive in any form, it would be a construct 100%, but he denied that offer and so Adam Smasher killed him. I mean, unless you (or any deniers) were watching a version in which he lives with everyone else.

it was an amazing series, one season and done is perfect. trying to extend on it would be a horrible idea filled with a crap ton of plotholes and would be a clear trying to stretch success for money. If they want to do like, a completely different point of view like a Corpo series or something, then maybe. but it ended perfectly, let it end.

just enjoy it, and be thankful we got such a great season of it.
