and Guts is kind of a bitch, I honestly don't like him at all. Is this how he keeps acting? He's really unlikeable right now. But I've heard people love him. Does he ever change or is the fandom just filled with edgy kids?

The Golden Age Arcs develop him as hell , making him one of the most realistic characters out there.
Even after it , he keeps trying to become someone new , but he keeps getting... distracted.
So yes , he gets a whole lot better , but if even after the Golden Age Arc you don't like him , just drop the Manga , as he won't quit being the protagonist.

That was a rumor going on in the fandom : "Miura is so lazy that he prefer to play Idolmaster all days instead of drawing and finishing his Manga !"
But it's false , he just take extreme attention to his panel. From the composition to the Artwork hitself , i really can't name a better Mangaka.
In most double pages panels of the last few Volumes , you can zoom-in and see all the details correctly drawn... It indicate at which point Miura was perfectionnist with his Berserk.

Oh man. Wait till you get to the Eclipse.
You will truly respect Guts.

The Golden Age arc sets out Guts' whole journey from being a young kid trained by Gambino to become a mercenary to being a captain of the band of hawks led by Griffith. You get to see Guts character development throughout the entirety of the arc. From the peak of his mercenary days to the downfall of the band of hawks. It's one roller coaster ride.

Post Golden Age, Guts' character does get better. He's more mature and wiser. And more badass!
