I think watching the series in a movie format would be a much more enjoyable experience for me.

I mean I wouldn't recommend it, the movies tell a completely different version of the story, personally I hate the series and like the movies, but I still recommend watching the series first

They are different shows with the same setting. So watching on isn’t a substitute for watching the other.

Not a sequel but a rebuild. Squeal implies they leave off directly after the original, which they do not. A rebuild has the same setting same character but a different story and development

I’ve watched and loved both very much but I can say I’ve had more enjoyment and attachment with the rebuild movies. I just think the movies did a great job of making the story more cohesive, as I found the presentation of the Angel battles, character development, and lore storytelling much more captivating and impressive than that of the series. The aspects in terms of production and storywriting are greatly fine tuned as well and improved in every aspect imo. The 4th movie most especially is one of my all time favorite movies ever :). I’d recommend that if you find your motivation leaning more towards the movies, then you can check those out first, as I can vouch you won’t be disappointed in them. In any case, you can still enjoy the series after watching the movies, I definitely do recommend it as well. Have fun! :)

Go by your enjoyment. There’s some dry spots in the original ngl so no shame in wanting to skip it.
You won’t miss out on much in the original if you skip it, but knowing could help in understanding “some” of the plot of the rebuilds.
I say “some” because there’s tons of meta plot stuff in the rebuilds that is borderline headache inducing w/o some knowledge of the original. But then again, making people know some story elements is asking a wee bit for a group of movie spin-offs if your not a guru and just an normal watcher.

Big No,

Movies can be only fully enjoyed if you have watched Original Series.

not at all, watching the movies without the original would just let you confused and not understanding 80% of whats going on

it would be the worst way to do it, i’d rather not watch any of it rather than watch it in this awfull way

I get the gist of it. The movies basically tell a different story, though I don't mind it. I'll watch the movies first then. Afterwards i'll watch the original.

Yes, skip the orginal.
While I love the original and the rebuilds cannot replace it. I DO NOT recommend it to anyone cos it is 26 episodes long plus 1 moive where you have a high chance of hating it to it's very core.

I would recommend to watch the original first. It's what will make you understand the world and give you a chance to connect with the characters. You can watch the Rebuilds after the show and End of Eva. Both the versions are worth watching imo.

The movies tell a completely different story and it happens to be pretty bad. Watch the original and then this later if you like the characters.

Of course not, how will you understand the extent to which anno tries to shit on the fans and what they loved about Eva in the first place? If anything you should drop the rebuilds.

I’m mostly kidding so don’t @ me, but the rebuilds are definitely not good as a replacement to the OG series.

The rebuilds are a sequel, so that wouldn’t make sense. Original, EoE, and then those rebuilds, or the show will appear lesser.
The right mindset when watching an anime is hoping that it will break your top 10

That’s like watching steins gate 0 and skipping steins gate, or most of fate where it’s an alternate route but you need to watch the original to truly understand the story

No. Even though the movies are an alternate version of the series...the movies still fully expect you to have seen the original, especially the last movie.

I would recommend watching the original TV series, EoE, 1.11, 2.22, 3.33, 3.0 + 1.01, and then finally the two part documentary- Hideaki Anno: The Final Challenge of Evangelion. By the end, you'll be really glad you watched the orignal series, and the documentary is excellent 👌.
