The original series had like 40 something episodes, we're past double that now

anyone who watched the original... Where is all the extra content coming from? There doesnt seem to have been TOO much filler content..

The original did not adapt all of the source material. There were plans to but it never got greenlit. In fact when the first adaptation came out, the manga wasn’t even finished yet I think.

It's not fluff, the old version wasn't a complete adaptation of the manga. It ended on Baran arc. Everything after episode 25 of the 2020 anime is stuff from the manga that hadn't been adapted before. There have only been a few filler episodes in the current anime.

The original anime didn’t even adapt 1/3 of the entire story!

The old 1991 anime only adapted 88 out of 349 chapters. The remake has 0% filler, they even removed some scenes from manga. 40% of old 1991 anime are fillers, even some character designs are not canon: Hyunckel's eyebow color, Leona's hair color,... Because at the time, the manga was still ongoing XD

The same reason why readaptation of Fruits Basket had 60+ episodes instead of 22 like original.
Manga concluded, so it was whole adaptation and nothing is being skipped (so far)

46 episodes of original 1991 anime = 24 episodes (& half of episode 25) 2020 remake

1991 anime is actually more faithful adaptation (they covered 88 chapters cover by cover unlike the first 25 episodes 2020 remake which skipped some scenes from manga). Only exception is the the final episode which did not follow the manga (had anime original ending).

Also, blood and sexual scene (like Matoriv grabs maam's boob etc) did not get censored in the original anime.

Overall I prefer then 2020 remake because it adapts the whole manga

Because it is the FULL adaptation aside old adaptation which covers not the whole manga.

it's fully adaptating all 37 or so volumes of the original manga and I think were gonna be at 100 or 115 episodes depending on how much is left to adapt

All of this is good news. Thanks to all that replied! I'm happy to know it'll be continuing on for a bit, i was just worried that Toei might be fluffing out a series.

Thanks!

I'm glad that I'll be able to see the ending of this epic story.
