anyone else round here into it? been doing it myself since my very first GUNDAM kit back in 1997.

i had been working with old-fashioned paint-and-glue 1980's-leftover Mecha kits for years by that point,
and when BANDAI GUNPLA plastic model engineering seemingly came straight out of nowhere, -hitting me like a grand slam-
i knew i had been suddenly thrust straight into the future, and there was no turning back...

I’ve put together some easy model kits before, one of them being an Evangelion Unit 01, but I’ve been very interested in getting into Gunpla models. I think I’ll take that plunge when I properly get into Gundam, I’ve really only seen bits and pieces...but if you have any advice for someone just starting, feel free to let me know. Awesome collection!

Not really advice on Gunpla but if you are getting into Gunpla the best way is getting a Gunpla of a Gundam series you really like. Gundam is a lot more accessible then it looks like with most of the recent series being fully standalone.

For example these two:
-IBO: https://myanimelist.net/anime/31251/Mobile_Suit_Gundam__Iron-Blooded_Orphans
-00: https://myanimelist.net/anime/2581/Mobile_Suit_Gundam_00

Both are worth your time and if that is up your alley then it is a nice time to jump into the UC: the biggest gundam timeline starting with the OG gundam. Which is a long and fun ride.

Thank you man! It spans so many years and can be intimidating at first, but I’m very excited to dive in and find things to love.

lmao i have built a bunch of car and plane kits, it is interesting to see how the two diverged. i built a russian zvezda kit of an m72 motorcycle a few months ago and it uses extremely precise molding techniques to have little locator pins so small you have to put your face an inch away from the model to see them ;_____; needless to say my build of that kit is all crooked and wonky.

i would take soft polystyrene over hard rigid abs or whatever any day though!

here is my latest build, it is a gaogao kampfer kai. im super happy with how it turned out except the orange peel on the feet ;_;

damn, ya its genuinely weird how expensive gundam kits are. ive gone to model shows and there will be a large selection of model airplane kits for like 2 or 3 USD each, and anything thats already been started is basically free...

Yup, seems like the only way to get good deals is bulk buy from sites like hobby link japan. But I haven't got a kit in a long time so I don't really want to spend a bunch of money to buy like 5

lo l my builds are always super sloppy. lots of orange peel and surfaec defects that i dont properly remove. i also just suck at snapping together ktis so i basically always have parts not snapped in quite right or places i broke the pegs off and glued it
