the newest episode shows that the engaged thing that Hiro was referring to is about inheriting the shrine because her family runs a shrine. i dont get why that would be a burden for erika or nagi. can someone explain?

Ok, so is she actually engaged or not? It was kinda confusing the way the said it this past episode. Either that or I’m just dumb…

Yes this is my question too. I guess we are missing some cultural refference that a japanese person could explain?

Is it like the chatolic priests tht can't get married? That would kind of defeat the point having a family shrine while not being able to have a family? Someone should explain

Well they do say it’s it’s a big shrine, so there’s probably a lot of responsibility and sacrifices to run it properly. That’s how I understood it. So maybe she feels she wouldn’t be able to fully give her self to him or something

I googled it and it seemed like the young assistant shrine workers are supposed to be virgins but once their the boss they’re allowed to get married and have sex.

Hiro is arranged/engaged with someone she hasn't meet yet (same thing that happens between her parents). Arrange marriage is kinda disturbing topic specially since it's not a thing in this period, it would make you guilty if you can't do anything to help and how to be mindful in keeping distance (from experience). Hiro would probably like to live normally without bothering anyone.
To toxic fans: Atleast wait for an anime season to end before you go on tantrum.
