Assuming we get a faithful adaptation(this is a big assumption), how far into the story do you think the anime can cover in a single cour?

I'm going to guess that the first two episodes will just cover the first two chapters since they're much longer than usual (50+ pages each). From there, I'm assuming the adaption rate will speed up a lot since the chapters get much shorter.

Seems to me that the best stopping point would be chapters 42 and 43, when

I would consider that the end of the first major arc. But do you think the anime could get that far in a single cour? Seems like it would be crazy rushed if so. So either A. we get a rushed single cour, B. we get a well-paced single cour that ends on a cliffhanger, or C. we get a glorious double/split cour.

Or D. we get an anime original ending and never see a season 2 😭

Yep. I'm assuming they'll stop shortly after the gods of thunder reveal themselves in the caves, maybe with some winding down afterwards. Makes sense to include the training and tournaments arcs in season 2, and likely the Yokohama arc as well.

Agreed and agreed! Yokohama would be a pretty great finale for a second cour/season. Tbh, a lot of the chapters are <20 pages, and a lot of the panels are action. We could be adapting lots of chapters per episode, so this pacing seems achievable.
