[Spoilers] I had somewhat high expectations, it was announced everywhere in Japan and you could hear one of the songs from the movie everywhere you went, but it was such a huge disappointment. The animation was quite poor with all CGI characters, but although this is the first thing I noticed, it is not even the worst thing of the movie. The characters are completely plain, with zero emotions and personality. For some reason the voice of Ruri sounded very amateur, with distorted recording and 0 acting abilities. It is also quite insulting how devoid of a personality Ruri is, supernatural things happening all around her and she doesnt question them or panic, simply accepts it. Oh and also do you remember Misuzu? Yeah me neither, what was the point of having her? It seemed the story would become a love triangle but not even that, she appeared on a few scenes, it seemed like she was going to develop or do something at all, but then poof, gone and never mentioned again. Why showing her in the first place if you wanted to focus the story on Ruri anyway? The way the romance developed also felt artificial because it was treated like a training arc with background music and random scenes, so we didnt even get to understand how they started to like each other or care about them or their relationship. The world building is very poor, with very little logical explanation about most things, and some things feel stupid, like having to "kidnap" the data of a person from the AllTale to insert it into the head of a brain-dead person (how???). If it was just data you could just... copy it? The powers also contradicted themselves. During the first moments it is explained that you have to touch something to create things, and that creating complex things takes a lot of time, but by the end of the movie the MC is breaking all those rules creating huge and complex things out of thin air almost instantly. That and the plot twist of Naomi actually being the person in comma and living on the moon... just a closure to an already absurd plot... I am not sure how I was able to finish this shitshow, and I dont understand either how it got an average score of 7.5, please someone explain, I am missing something? The only good thing about the movie were the backgrounds, really well drawn and detailed, represented very well many famous places from Kyoto, and the animation when Naomi moved to the other world was really impressive. |

7.5 is a decent score but it’s not like it’s crazy good. A perceived average RomCom can score that easily. The time stuff / animation / and music probably just boosts the crap out of the rating. I thoroughly enjoyed it |

6.75/10 .This show could've been better . Sometimes the animation feels great sometimes it sucks .Story was good too but then it gone downhill . This is hell lot of inconsistent anime . |

It was good in terms of 3D animation , clearly it isn't there yet. It won't compare to 2D style at least for a few years. It has some cool visuals at times , decent story not bad not very good. |

i think i rated it a 5. That’s legit perfect for this show. It’s just very mid with everything (although the animation is a 1). I had it on my list and was counting down the anime until i watched it because i thought i was gunna fucking love it. Then i did and it was one of the most disappointing watches ever. I could allow 6 but 7.5? NAH |

A romcom has somewhat decent characters so you end up caring about them and their relationship, on this movie none of that existed. Ruri was a token love interest with no personality, objectives or will on her own, its like Peach in old Mario games, only there for the protagonist to have an objective to obtain. That for the rom part, as there was literally 0 com on this movie. syedzohair said: Cuz it was good😂I mean it deserves the high rating Can you elaborate? Mid is something not good, but not bad either, something you forget. This movie is not that, is worse than mid, and I kept thinking about it for hours and even decided to make this post because of how stupid and bad it was. |

I really enjoyed the movie the first time I saw it. In hindsight, it was one of the first anime works I've seen, so my glasses were a little tainted. I still really enjoy the OST however, think the CGI is still better than most animes and blends the CGI /traditional 2D line together well, , find the setting and story pretty unique and while Ruri is not very distinct, she serves the purpose and in fact represents the stereotypical Japanese girl quite well. The plot was haphazard and somewhat unclear on first watch, but it was interesting to untie it later on. And just as importantly, it was the movie that got me interested in anime again and led to me watching the Shinkais, Miyazakis and seasonal anime works after. So in good conscience, I can't really give the movie a lower score than I originally did. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the sound, the setting, the premise and the animation and don't quite get the hate it gets. I think it's pretty unique in many ways, while not quite up to par in other. |

Cuz it's good lol. Just about everything on this platform has an average rating in the 7s. 6 at the lowest, 8 at the highest. Even if I hated this movie, a 7.5 wouldn't surprise me. But I actually really liked it, so it seems fair imo. An easy 8 in my book, but I could see the art style dragging it down for other people. And if people are upset with the cliches, everything's been done to death. If stuff starts feeling stale, you just have to take a break and switch genres or mediums. A generic story can still be quite enjoyable if you're willing to let it stand on its own, and it successfully scratches all those itches you want scratched. Addressing other concerns. The rules did state he could transform air, and he could only transform ground when he touched it. That was never broken. Beyond that it was traditional power creep. This was clearly never meant to be a romcom since there's little to no comedy; it's a drama. The characters had stereotypical personalities, but they were personalities. The cutesy girl was only there to make the protag more relatable, as she would be the popular hot girl most boys in highschool would be fixated on, as opposed to standoffish bookworms; as well as functioning as a weak foil to Ichigyo: i.e. a way to save time establishing what her character is by showing what she isn't. Common thing done in shorter mediums like movies where you have less time to play with. Lastly, I feel like I'm listening to shitty reviews for Inception again. A->B->C->B->A is not difficult to follow, especially in this kind of format. It's not they're constantly jumping between all 3 of them with little warning. When people have trouble in shows where everything is laid out for the viewer like this, that just tells me they were messing with their phones or talking to people the whole time instead of watching. I could see someone getting a little confused by the very end, but even that was pretty simple to estimate from context clues. |
