Seriously, what was the point?

I’ve seen people say that it was because they wanted to hurry up to get to NT, but… yeah no, it doesn’t add up. If that was the case, we would have already seen an announcement or teaser a couple of months after Index 3 finished airing. It’s been close to 4 damn years (at the time of writing this) since it stopped and not a single word from publishers like Dengeki Bunko or even J.C. Staff too for that matter.

What the hell?

At this point, it seems like saying it was for NT was just copium. I feel like they just wanted to get it over with at this point.

jcstaff was extremely overburdened when index s3 was made.
kadokawa and the commitee didn't want to invest more into index probably.
iirc the director begged them to give him more episodes to work with and he only got 2 extra eps.

What was rushed about this, I hear this all the time, I haven't read the LN but I preferred this season of index to the first two (still prefer railgun and accelerator), did they skip some stuff from the LN?

If you wanna know, the reason of Index 3 was rushed because the production committee itself. Kadokawa wanted J.C Staff to ended the Old Testament quickly. Even the director itself originally wanted to make 36 episodes of season 3 but the kadokawa denied and they just gives us 2 extra episodes. From this we now know that J.C Staff was a victim. They don't want to ruined their most favorite anime. Look what have they doned with Railgun, so much improvement and have such a pretty good quality from an average studio. They're not big as Production I.G, MAPPA, Madhouse or A1- pictures. Well yeah, they also make tons of shit anime adaptation but that doesn't make that studio is bad. J.C Staff also make a masterpiece anime like Little Buster, Sakurasou, Golden Time, Railgun, Index and Shakugan no Shana.

so yeah I think we can give them another chance to fix their past mistakes.

NT is New Testament, which is the next big half of the series. Everything that has been in Index 1-3 is OT (Old Testament)

That just tells me how they were rushed, not exactly why. Just because they didn’t have the resources for more eps, it doesn’t mean J.C. Staff couldn’t have just said, “Hey, we don’t have enough time to cover the source material, so let’s cut the ending roughly before X episode happens. We’ll save resources for another potential season in the future.”

Yes, it would have been a cop out/cliffhanger ending, but it would have been better to leave it fleshed out than just a crammed mess—a mess that has butchered a lot of elements that tie into NT.

it takes time for anime to be made. jc staff is quite a big studio with quite a lot of anime productions that they’re involved in. so they can’t just announce it immediately. also i’m pretty sure the director will chance after the hate they got with s3.

The rumours say the production committee wanted to get to the NT portion of the story ASAP, it was either that or remake the OT. This was obviously a lie or pure hopium, Kadokawa I think wanted to get it over with as fans were asking for Index III since the end of Railgun S back in 2013 during the peak popularity of the whole franchise.

As for JC Staff they knew adapting 9 volumes worth of content would be extremely difficult and asked for around 39 episodes + movie but were only given two episodes. Normally most reputable studios would refuse to animate a project in that way, but there were two reasons JC staff still went through with it:

1.They take too much work on in a short amount of time for more money.
2.They have no passion for Index.

Both production committee and anime studio just didn't care at the end of the day and were looking for a quick buck, the Index III Blu ray/DVD sales were +30k and were streamed heavily in Japan and China so they got what they wanted I guess. Its been 4 years since production of Index III and I honestly don't expect anything Index related for a while.
