Tbf as shocking as the reveal was at the end of the episode I think it's safe to say it was foreshadowed a lot, at the end of episode 3 when Zeke broke the vow to renounce war and pulled a UNO card on Eren, he wasn't surprised in the slightest, in fact he just gave him the "this is exactly what I wanted to happen" look.

In episode 4 he tried to convince Zeke that what he was doing was pointless because he's already seen everything that's gonna happen. I think he's just playing along because everything seems to be going exactly as he wants, so he's just acting at this point🤞🏽

It's as if this entire anime was directed and written by Eren Yeager himself 🤣

Mod Edit: Modified title for clarity and/or easier searching.

Attack titan can't actually see the future , the users of attack titan can see the memories of the future users sent by the future users themselves , Eren sent Grisha memories . After Eren inherited Titans from Grisha , he saw Grisha's memories and along with those memories he saw the memories sent by Future Eren to Grisha. Eren only knows a selective amount of future events .I know it's a little confusing but that's how it is.

There were moments when Eren did seem genuinely surprised, so he's not seeing every single future event, just glimpses as Grisha stated. Almost like snapshots of time.

For example, when Grisha sees Zeke in the basement, he looked as shocked as Zeke did. He also looked surprised by the turn of events in PATHs before Zeke took him into those memories.

Now that I think about it I think you're right, he also didn't expect to get neckshotted by Gabi while making his way to Zeke, when he looked to his right he genuinely seemed frightened. So I guess that means Eren can only see the significant events recorded by Future Eren's memories?

It is true that attack titan user can see the future only if the future user of attack titan intends to pass his/her life memories to the current user. If the future user of attack titan doesn't want to share his memories to the past user then the past user cannot see the future. In the episode the future EREN( here the future eren mean eren probably from the finale ep of aot s4 pt2 who knows everything that even current eren s4 ep20 doesn't knows whole)gave Grisha(while grisha was fighting frida at that time) few amount of memories of the future that yet happened and still yet to happen AND because teen eren saw Grisha memories of fighting frida reiss( when he kissed historias hand ) and he also saw current eren manipulating grisha to kill royal family and also the memories of the future that future eren gave to grisha. That's how eren saw the future( but not the complete future but a little bit glimpse of some future events because future eren gave grisha only glimpse of some future events in his memories. REASON= if future eren gave his complete memories to grisha then griha would have disagree with erens goal and could have tried to prevent it in past).

holy moly this is actually 10 times more complicated than I thought, so what you're basically saying is that Future Eren gave Grisha a small percentage of his memories to convince him to play along and in Episode 4 he showed him the full picture of what's going to happen in the later episodes? If that's the case then doesn't that mean Zeke can't do anything to stop anything Grisha saw from happening? Because if Eren sent him memories that means those things MUST'VE ALREADY happened, it's like a Dstiny that can't be altered

Yes it was denstiny of eren to give grisha the memories. You said that zeke could have stop him but he cannot there are 3 reasons. 1) GRIHA HIMSELF SAID IN THIS EPISODE THAT ATTACK TITAN DOES NOT OBEY ANYONE NOT EVEN KING(FOUNDING TITAN) BECAUSE THE FOUNDING TITAN CANNOT CONTROL ATTACK TITAN LIKE OTHER TITANS OR ELDIANS. Zeke didn't even knew that attack titan could see the future memories, zeke don't know how this memories shit works because grisha told that attack titan could SEE the future memories but in actual case is that if the future user shares his memories then only current user can see it and zeke don't know about this. 2) It's destiny, in aot world if someone knows the future, but still they couldn't change, if they tried to change it then it results that they were the one who created it instead of changing it, example=when shaha dies, current eren saw her death probably when he kissed historia hand, current eren may have also tried to prevent those things to happen at that time, but still shahar dies, eren also laugh when shaha dies BECAUSE that time eren understands that whatever he do the future cannot change, it's their destiny. So now eren had only one option, which is to do nothing and KEEP MOVING FORWARD with his destiny( this keep moving forward dialogue is very important that it took place many times in s4 if you remember). 3) If you are anime only then I can't tell you the third reason because it contains major spoilers, but you will get there in next 2 eps.

Not necessarily significant events, just events. Some of them just happen to be significant.
