In the Land of Leadale (light novel)
| Referring to the 2020 series By the Grace of the Gods (Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko). This series could form a nice companion piece to watch or recommend alongside in it for those interested in these types of series. I mean besides the obvious in terms of the premise of it being an isekai with yet another overpowered protagonist and that same air of power fantasy. Specifically the art style and very noticeably, the interstitial segments which form a transition in the episodes usually at or around the midway point. For those who have seen By The Grace of the Gods, do you expect to like this one better or worse by comparison? |
| So far, I’m not expecting this to surpass By The Grace of Gods. In the Land of Leadale has been wholesome and enjoyable so far, but has a somewhat bland feeling in comparison. But I can’t say for certain since it’s only two episodes in. |

| It's similar because it's the same studio that made both. Like how both bakemonogatari and madoka magica have that classic neck tilt but this one has those really pretty eyes. | Tbh, I don’t think they’re that similar. They’re both just good-natured slow-life fantasy isekai series (which we already have a lot of). I think the closest anime to Leadale are Bofuri and Slime 300. |

The plot as laid out in the synopsis is different (beyond being another isekai with RPG mechanics and a Slice of Life aspect) - it's more the art style and little touches and flourishes like the interstitial segments which brought the similarity to mind. |
| I like Leadale no Daichi more than By the Grace of the Gods. Now at episode 3 and still enjoying it. dropped By the Grace of the Gods after one episode, got bored. |
| I see no similarities at all. By the grace was all about collecting slimes like rare pokemon while also building a succesful laundry enterprise. The main protagonists aren't even similar in the slightest, when the mc in by the grace was just an exhausted middle age salary man, and in here we have a teen that died prematurely who's not too comfortable with bold affection moves from her NPC kids. |

As I said in the comment to another user, I'm a little shocked how easily I took to this series compared to the one series I was actually looking forward to this season, which also happens to be an isekai (She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man); maybe it's a difference in expectations in addition to quality disparity. As someone who doesn't watch a lot of isekai (I've seen more recently of some of the newer ones just by virtue of watching a lot more seasonals than ever before since the beginning of 2021), I'm a little surprised too how readily enjoyable I've found such a seemingly basic/by-the-numbers fantasy isekai and "generic" show, but it's relaxing, pleasant, and pretty fun. I like how there are some plot points in the background which can stoke interest, but it's mostly just daily living and exploring the world at a relaxed pace - in some ways she feels a million miles away from her old life and body, but by having the video game menu support AI also things seem easily navigable and accessible at her fingertips. It seems like a free open world where they could essentially do anything they want, and that includes having as much or as little actual plot as they want. I liked By the Grace of the Gods for the most part (rated it a 7/10 and plan to watch the second season when it airs this year or whenever), but it is what I'd consider a conventionally "boring" show since it's so placid and everything feels very calm and safe even in situations that in other series would lead to some tension, excitement, or conflict. Everyone is extremely mild and nice. My one real complaint about it is that the protagonist can do absolutely everything and anything with zero real effort or stakes of any kind without even thinking about it or really trying, and of course, predictably, everyone else in the world is continuously astonished by this and worships him instantly. But it doesn't seem to me so much of a series-specific complaint about By the Grace of the Gods as much as it is a recurring issue in the isekai subgenre or, at least, the more recent isekai phenomenon of the past 10 or so years. It's also present in World of Leadale. I am also liking World of Leadale so far though and I dare say, more than I expected. It's funny because other than a passing comment or two I didn't really even hear or think about this series' existence until about a week ago. I just decided to randomly watch it on a whim. Whereas one of the other isekai seasonals, She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man, is the only series I was really fully aware of and actively looking forward to going into this season since a few months ago (besides ongoing and returning series) and this so far has proven better and more enjoyable in every way. To wich it could had been compared to a plethora of copy/paste isekai with RPG mechanics if you're just talking about just cosmetic elements and not the important and core elements like it's characters and story. Both shows being produced by Maho films still have quite a different style in cinematography and art/animation. By the grace of Gods was plagued by cheap CG in the slimes that were a big part of the show. In here, although there are a handful of use for CG animals for carriage and traveling they aren't nearly as prominent as the slimes in by the grace. Maho Films have always been a bottom tier studios, but at least this show has the better visuals so far that definitely make it stand out from their other works like, By the grace of gods, I'm standing on a million lives & If It's for My Daughter. |
| This type of show is called 'iyashikei'. After isekai boom, power fantasy becomes more common so it's not strange if you see shows with similiar atmosphere. | They are similar in the vibe they give off. I thought it was similar to "Overlord" personally. |
