It's rated R17+ and has the suspense, drama and psychological tags. What exactly are you expecting? A light hearted comedy?

Because it’s popular. That’s all. Like how Kimetsu no Yaiba and Jujutsu Kaisen being called generic or Mushoku Tensei being called “an anime for pedo”(yes I saw a lot of these). Well those kids can’t do anything about it tho. Generic or bad for for who, it’s still popular.
It will be funny to see those haters saying Chainsaw Man have way too much fan service or too violence when it come out TBH.

It's not really the same imo. If you call something generic, it's a direct criticism of the show. While if you say something is too dark, that's something that applies to you not the show. Which is why I wonder why people start the show in the first place. What about the show gives off the vibe this is a comedy of some sort? First episode kind of gives away how dark this show is.

Is it bad or not, it doesn’t matter. If you already hate it, you gonna try to find ANYTHING to shit on it. Like the “Mushoku Tensei are only for pedo”.

Well yes, the MC's mental health continuously breaks down as the show goes on due to him having to see the people he loves get brutally murdered over and over again.

is that it? I mean I personally didn't find it dark at all. Maybe it's due to the way it is presented, i couldn't find it dark.

For sure, and not in a funny way either.

I liked the first season and think it's a well written story but it all became too grim for me.

What is your definition of dark then? Do all the characters have to be brutally raped or something?

i won't lie i didn't much enjoy this series as much as people did. I don't think this is first time but often popular dark shows like aot don't feel dark to me in any sense(not because they're popular but giving a popular example) Tbf I only kept watching this show thinking, "this could've been much worse but it's alright". But ngl, i loved the latest season's ending where The witch says something like "Love yourself. You are one of the people who needs to be saved when you try to save people. Why don't you understand something as small as that?". .y respect for the show hit the ceiling. Like I literally didn't much have an opinion on the show until that final moment but when the witch says that, I immediately fell for the show

ah no. Definitions don't define dark for me. Character mother was eaten by a giant naked woman? Nope, I don't really care about the characters enough to feel that's dark. Guy dies? Ok so what? I don't really care enough to feel it's something that bothers me to an extent where I call it's dark. If I don't connect with characters, I wouldn't even find brutal rape or etc etc stuff dark. It's not "definition" of dark. It's more like "which character is suffering". Do i like that character? Fo I hate that character? Do I have an opinion on that character to an extent where I care about something that happened to them? It's something like that.

Being 'dark' is just a theme of a show, you really don't need to connect with the characters to see that. It's like me saying "I didn't find Gintama funny so therefore it's not a comedy", the theme of the show is very dark.

if I didn't find gintama funny, there's no way I can call that a comedy. I'm not saying it shouldn't be funny for everyone. I'm asking if it was funny for you because I didn't find it funny. Imagine it as something like this. Say some guy was brutally killed by some terrorist and the video is trending everywhere. Do i find it brutal? If yes, oh that's terrifying. If no, I dont really care. The entire world could burn and if I don't feel anything about that, there's really no need for me to care

I've never seen anyone complaining about it being 'dark'. Infact, majority of the people in anime community likes Dark stuff.

The only hate I've seen towards this show is that its MC is unbearable.

In my opinion, they didn’t balance the darkness well …
Of course it’s R17+ rated and people who can’t take blood and gore shouldn’t watch it , but that’s not my complaint. If they had balanced it better like Fruits Basket, which has its fair share of darkness (*wink* promoted my favourite anime) , it would have been better.
Overall Re:zero has one of the best character developments ever , but most of the time it felt as if I was torturing myself by watching the show 😅
If you are from South East Asia, then I request you, when you will start an anime, you search if it is available on Muse Asia and Ani-one Asia, before looking through piracy websites

It’s very popular, so newbies expect it to be like the other top shounens and it just isn’t I guess
