Clannad: After Story is literally trash. It’s like literally when they left high school they don’t know what to do with themselves. It became so boring it took me 2 months to finish that short anime. It’s just too dull and it has nothing interesting about it.

I think I realize why he can't appreciate After story but love SAO and shows like that. Pretty hard to relate to the story and characters amd have the emotional understandning at 14y. He should give it another shot in a few years. In the meanwhile just keep watching generic shounen/isekai I guess.

I'm 39 and I just got into anime 3 years ago but this is definitely a top favorite. The visual novel is even better than the anime. Both the VN and anime are masterpieces though.
