This adaptation skip a lot of important things from the 1st Arc , and remove some as well for the 2nd. But it's still considered by most as the only good adaptation of Berserk. Berserk Movie : Ougon Jidai-hen is a Trilogy Movie Remake of the Golden Age Arc. This adaptation change a lot of things , removing plenty of important events/details. The Animation is greatly improved , using a mix of 2D & (Not so bad) 3D. It's worth the watch if you want to see an alternative take on the Golden Age , while keeping the most key-moments and characters. Berserk & Berserk 2nd Season (Or Berserk 2016 & 2017) re-adapt the end of the The Blackswordman while taking the time to add the elements skipped in Berserk 97 , then adapt the 3rd Arc : Conviction and the 1st half of the 4th : Millennium Falcon. This adaptation skipped some intermediate mini-Arcs , but nothing too important. Overall , it's a pretty good adaptation story-wise , the problem... is the animation. The show is completely animated in (Horrendous) CGI , making the fans hit their face on a wall. Overall , if you want to experience the so-called greatness of Berserk , you will have no choice but to touch the Manga at one point , whos Anime Adaptations do not even come close to his ankle. | Like others have already said, if you care at all about not having your eyes bleed, please for the love of God stay the hell away from Berserk 2016/2017. I say that at least in respects to finding a serious piece of well made art, it can be fun to turn it on simply to laugh at how atrocious it is. Besides, disregarding the fact that Berserk 2016 spits in the face of one of the greatest dark fantasy series of all time, you would be jumping into the middle of the story by starting with it. As far as the 90s version and the movie trilogy go, they have a lot of great stuff going for them, just be aware that both are telling the same portion of the story. In my humble opinion, none of the anime adaptations can hold a candle to the magnificence of Miura's manga and the feelings it thrusts upon you while reading it. However, Berserk '97 and The Golden Age Trilogy do A LOT of stuff right and manage to keep the spirit of the manga in many key ways. I just also feel that there are some major things holding back both adaptations and some intangibles that are missing which weaken the experience for me personally. If I had to recommend one way to consume Berserk, it would absolutely be the Manga. However, if you are averse to reading, I feel I can also safely recommend '97 and the trilogy. If you're only willing to watch the anime, I would definitely say start with '97 and then watch the trilogy if you feel like it; once again just be aware that the trilogy is rehashing the same story line that the original anime already covered. The only other thing I would mention is that if for whatever reason you can't stand older cell style animation, maybe just watch only the trilogy. I personally feel like you'd be missing out on some stuff, plus there's a little bit of some janky CGI in the movies, but like I said both of these adoptions do a lot of things right in my books. Anyway, regardless of what you end up deciding, I wish you enjoyment in your Berserk travels. I'm glad you seem to be trying to get into this series, hopefully it'll be the type of story for you. |

| the manga is a masterpiece and anyone would recommend that, but if ur one of those ppl who'd watch something rather than read... go with kenpuu denki for the best adaptation, since the pacing and story is just like the manga (albeit the more gruesome parts are cut out) if you wanna watch it all in one go, there's the ougon jidai berserk movies, which covers each major arc in 3 movies. its got better animation too considering it was more recent. won't recommend berserk 2016 even to my worst enemy, because the appalling CGI and bad art completely puts shame on Miura's masterpiece of a manga. however (if u can stomach bad CGI), and u still want to go through with watching how guts' story unfolds, u can go ahead, but it completely takes out the shine and power from the story, considering berserk art is pretty amazing. |

| Read the manga, watch the 1997 anime. Avoid everything else. Why people recommend the movie trilogy I'll never know. It looks ugly and has a 266 minute combined runtime. Compare that to the 625 minutes of the 1997 anime. |
