I think it's related to the fact that both of them were using sword god style, which basically is about striking some1 down before he can do anything. I guess because of that they were able to figure out who's stronger based on 1 quick trade. https://mushokutensei.fandom.com/wiki/Sword_God_Style

Nothing special there, i'm sure every anime fan is used with this "ONE-HIT FIGHT IS ENOUGH TO CHECK OUR POWA"

Then Rudy didn't got anything because he is REALLY bad at sword fighting, to his father complete disappointment.

He is so bad that he doesn't even know that non-magical fighters in that world have "ki" (or something similar to it) and it is what allows skilled fighters to achieve superhuman abilities.

I believe this to be correct.

I mean its pretty simple to understand, its a battle between sword fighters. And it ended in a draw. Most sword fighters bond over their battles, and a draw shows equality between fighters. There respect is born. Rudeus didnt get it cuz hes a mage not a sword foghter, therefore cannot understand their pride.

No bro eris hasn’t learnt those styles in the anime till now
So what you are thinking is not correct.this kind of fight would happen later in the series after 4-5 seasons. But this was something else.
In my opinion it was just a filler and wasted episode.Don’t know why they made a filler when around 20 voumes are still left to be adapted😅

For the purposes of the story it's meant to demonstrate (in a quick fashion) Eris' current level of training. It's a road marker so the audience knows where her martial prowess currently is. Remember, there was a time skip in Episode 4 from the beginning-ish of the wet season until the end (3 months). It's a re-alignment of some of our perceptions as they depart on the next leg of this current journey.

That's what it was meant for.

It definitely wasn't a draw the way she was disappointed and exclaimed how she'd win next time

No it was a draw, Eris is just too competitive thats why she acted that way. If youve seen other sword fighting anime youd know drawing is the same as losing to sword fighters.

It made 0 sense to me too. I thought that studio might've saved money by not animating an actual fight lol. Eris isn't that good to do strikes so quick Rudy can't keep up, so, in the end it was obviously just 1 strike - the end. Were they aiming to shatter opponents weapon maybe? Pretty lame how they didn't explain what exactly they were testing.
