Tanjiro is a good protagonist..?

Tanjiro as a protagonist I do not like, his development in the work is very little and feels very heavy, they have him as the best new gen protagonist, but I do not know how true that is, besides he does not have much competition (in my opinion itadori and even deku are better than him) I did not manage to finish the manga because I was bored, but I think I could give him another chance.

I find Season 1 Tanjiro as a protagonist lame, even the side characters are more uniqe but hopefully Season 2 will bring us a more intresting side of Tanjiro.

I love tanjiro but I don't think he's the best protagonist, if manga had been more developed and surpassed some clichés I think it would be an 8/10

I personally really enjoy Tanjiro as a protagonist in the anime as well as the manga. There isn’t much special about him but for the story there doesn’t really need to be much of anything special.

imo he’s just too uninteresting to be a good protagonist. He’s just morally perfect and does nothing wrong (except forget to take the demon’s blood twice, which is literally the entire reason he wanted to fight them, which I think is just bad writing to draw out the story for longer). I don’t dislike him I’m just indifferent to him.

There are a lot of much better protagonists out there but also some worse ones. Tanjiro is just basic middle of the road.

I find his character overly virtuous and unshakable, especially given the world of KNY. It's just bland to watch him interact with the world that perfectly. Taking into account the main audience, he's aight tho.

He’s an aggressively average protagonist. He’s not annoying in any way but doesn’t really have any stand out qualities. I’d say he’s similar to Deku in the current anime.

Honestly I feel like most characters in demon slayer are 1 dimensional and only have one personality trait. When it comes to new gen main charters he is much better then deku but overall he’s pretty average.

He is my favorite of the new gen MCs that’s for sure. I like Deku and I’m indifferent to Yuji and Asta for instance.

I’ve not come across such a genuine MC with so many redeeming qualities. That is refreshing in my book.

i find him okay

i like that he sympathizes with the demons he kills

but i don't like his over the top niceness, like in the forest with that spider demon, when he saw those other nameless demon slayers, he didn't kill them even though they were asking to be killed, look at levi from AOT when he was surrounded by his titan comrades, he took a hard choice which was killing them, i wish tanjiro was a but more ballsy like that

but overall i don't think hes a bad protagonist, hes got his own personality unlike many other basic and predictable protagonists

Demon Slayer is an anime that is unapologetically shonen and Tanjiro is a classic shonen protagonist, and thus has a lot of typical clichés that seasoned anime viewers could find a bit redundant. You just have to turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is: a fun show that doesn't take itself too seriously.

I actually watch/read demon slayer for its lore. I don't care about tanjiro/nezuko story. What I liked was hashiras and demons. Hashiras and upper moons are way better and interesting than mcs imo.

His character development ranges to “I need to get stronger so I can save my sister” and “I was too weak” throughout the entire story. It was interesting at first, but got old quick the more it was used. Every other character in demon slayer is very interesting tho

Well if I have have to save I really like Naomi that's all. For Gintoki I love his character his comedy makes sense even his emotions. As for Honda Tohru she is not like a generic shonen protagonist, I haven't finished the series but she seems pretty good as reasonable as well as heartwarming.

He's okay I guess... He's just your average shonen protagonist. There isn't much to his personality: he just appears as a kind boy who wants to protect everybody with no real reason (except for his sister).
5/10 or a bit less but hopefully the rest of the cast is better.

I actually really like Tanjiro. Not saying he's the best Shounen protagonist ever, but I really like his dedication to Nezuko and his all-encompassing kindness which still doesn't make him weak.

As for the other protagonists OP mentioned, I'm still watching JJK, currently on episode 23, and while I do like Yuji, I think that compared to the supportive cast he kind of takes a backseat in terms of how much I enjoy seeing him on screen.

And as for Deku... I'll give MHA a couple of years before I watch it so I don't get washed up in the wave of hype, which has happened to me in the past, so I can't say anything about him yet.

I find tangiro as a protagonist who is decent, not good, but decent.
Why? Well, why does he have a motivation, a defined personality, a reason for his motivations and even if it is little, he has development. And that for me is enough
And for those who say that he is a bad protagonist because he is too "pure", keep in mind that for a character to be good, a realistic personality is not necessary,What is necessary is what I said before, motivation, reason for motivation, development (even if it is little) and defined personality, why the latter?
Well, why would it not make sense for him to have a personality that changes a lot without meaning within the work unless he is someone like a bipolar or that type of illness

I agree, I think the problem is that Tanjiro starts in a place where most shounen protagonists end up at some point in their journey. Everything he experiences affects him emotionally more than anything else, so in terms of his resolve/journey not much does actually change about him, as much as he just finds more reasons to get stronger.

Then again this could be on purpose, as since Tanjiro is a protagonist up against truly insurmountable odds, the author may want to focus on his physical growth instead of his emotional/character growth.

Tanjiro is very "KNY" protagonist as in he is just suited for the show because he is very one dimensional and sees things in black and white, on terms of relatability he has none.

2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.
