I just started it too and holy shit, he was evolving and evolving and evolving like crazy. But the Gorilla girl's good, and next episode seems to be good as well so who knows. I'll watch it for now

I'd argue it's not so much generic as using generic as it's diving board then slipping and faceplanting on the water's surface.

Like, they had the time skip in episode one. An easy way to explain him getting thinner but instead it's

One week = nothing at all happens. One random mob monster and congrats you is op!

Five months later of nothing what so ever happening = one random mob monster and congrats you is more op!

They even had that one selling point, the gorilla girlfriend, turn into a generic waifu. Wish fulfillment > interesting.
