| Hate to break it to you buddy but you'll never find anything else out there which is like Clannad, I get it's overhyped and there's pushback culture and stuff but to me it's a modern classic that can never be topped because of my nostalgia goggles. Closest I've ever found is Toradora |

| Well since you said not Wolf Children, I guess Sangatsu no Lion season 2? The main characters Rei and Tomoya are pretty similar as well as the two main girls Nagisa and Hina. They deal with similar themes. I also suggest Steins Gate, the genres are different but the overall experience I got from both are pretty much the same, an incredible and emotional story with drama, death, friends, etc. Also for the record, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas is nothing like Clannad After Story. Not even close to the level of quality |
| I don't think Clannad AS is overly realistic, most characters are too good as human being.. I am not saying most people in real life are bad, but most people in real life have dark sides of them although most of the times they are good people, but not always.. Well maybe except for Tomoya, because the story was focused in his character development.. I think Koe no Katachi actually tackled this issue of realism somewhat better, although the theme is really different ... If you want a heartwarming show to restore your faith in humanity like what Clannad AS did try Aria.. But if you want a good show witth family as a theme in particular you can try Eccentric Family ... |

| Seems to be a bit of an old thread, but nobody mentioned Usagi Drop yet so there you go. It's not exactly the same but there are similarities. |
