The anime was always bad, the lack of development and monotonous devices are more apparent but they were always there. I would say, by the opinion of the manga readers and the content that I have watched, that this is an abhorrent and lazy adaptation of a corny edgy lame story that works better in manga because the pacing isnt that much of a problem

My answer: because the show relies on creating suspense and drama by making the characters act dumb. SO many things could be easily fixed or resolved in Takemichi just TALKED TO SOMEONE (!!) or created a plan instead of going in blind and just whining in internal monologues.

For example, he could have easily neutralized Kisaki from the beginning if he just did something like tell Hima he knows he is bad news and can she go along with him saying that he is a problem for her. (And this is just one idea out of many that could work). She would definitely go along with whatever he asked, even if it isn't the truth. Then when Kisaki finally shows up, he could have justified the punch and given the bogus explanation to Mikey and Draken who would have taken his side since A. They respect his dedication and willingness to not give up, especially in relation to Hina, and B. It would have happened before Kisaki would have had a chance to create a situation for the other Toman members, particularly Draken, to gain trust in him. Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am.

Takemichi has so much foreknowledge but never uses it or does anything proactive. He just reacts in the moment and never has a well thought out plan. Like, why not write a note to his past self when he isn't inhabiting the body to give some guidance? How would his sudden personality shifts be explained? Etc.

The other big issue is the lack of explanation for his time traveling abilities.... like how is it possible that his past and future self continue with the exact same life while he isn't inhabiting the body even though he has changed events so much? Even if the end restyle is Hina and other characters still dying, that doesn't mean his present life would still be exactly the same. We don't even know if he remembers the multiple timelines correctly or not.
