Hi, I would like to watch an anime that makes me bawl my eyes out, feel empty, or broken 😅. But if you just know a sad or emotional anime which is not that extreme I'll be glad to take your recommendations too!

It could ALSO be an anime where there are really dramatic/dramatic or messed up moments.

Some animes I've really liked, andd from *my* perspective fit those descriptions are Anohana, Orange, , Devilman Crybaby, Fruits Basket, Hotarubi no Mori e, School Days, Kuzu no Honkai.

I've also watched: I want to eat your pancreas, Your lie in april, Violet Evergarden, Koe no Katachi and Grave of the Fireflies, but I am not crazy about those.

Clannad + Clannad after story
Yosuga no sora
Ao haru ride
Angel beats

I personally havent watched clannad but some people said its very emotional and most of the people who've watched it actually cried.

There we have yosuga no sora, you said something messep up right? I wouldnt recommend to you watching it but since you asked for it there you go! Its literally a fked up anime but i enjoyed it anyway. Mostly the fked up thing was on the last arc so you have to watch 1-10 episodes to reach the messed up things, the very first arcs are wholesome idk about the last arc.

-Angel Beats! (It's funny most of the time, but the background stories of the characters are very sad and a lot of people cried at the ending)
-Neon Genesis Evangelion (Pretty much the definition of depressing)
-Puella Magi Madoka Magica (It looks cute, but trust me: It isn't. The characters have to deal with a lot of hopelessness)
-Chirin no Suzu (Again, it looks cute, but it is very sad and dark)

+1 for neon Genesis evangelion, the main character and his development all revolve around dealing with trauma and it does so in a relatively dark way.

Shinsekai yori is a series that questions morals and human thinking while being extremely messed up, so definitely that.

I think fate/zero is also a clear pick. It has light hearted moments but the majority of the series revolves around two people who have their own goals but will not hesitate to use death if it means furthering them on their path. The ending is also brilliant, but it is a prequel that is meant to be watched after watching or playing fate/stay night. I would recommend you watch deen's fate/stay night or UFOtable's fate/Stay Night unlimited blade works before watching this. It doesn't necessarily require knowledge to go into, so if you want to you can watch it by itself as well

Everyone probably already said it but Clannad + Afterstory and all the OVAs for it. It just kills you.
