Both feature an authoritarian nation fighting a slightly less authoritarian nation but other than that the politics are different.

UC Gundam and LOGH both start out with two corrupt and inept factions fighting eachother. While in LOGH the empire becomes less corrupt and more compitent, in the UC that doesn't happen. LOGH's war is fought between democracy and autocracy, while the UC's wars are fought for other, often more complicated, rationales, often having to do with the self determination of the spacenoids.

But what might be the largest difference between the two is that LOGH is told from the point of some of the political and military elite, Gundam is told from the perspective of soldiers. Meaning that politics and philosophy have a far lesser role to play, being replaced by the horrors of war and war itself (with a healthy dose of Gundam style comedy).

Also a major difference to note is that most Gundam episodes are mostly standalone, building up to a mecha fight at the end of the episode. LOGH often take it's time with setting up the stage for what often is a multi-episode battle

These are just some major differences I am able to name from the top of my head. If you want to correct me on it, feel free to do so

Gundam in general, at least from a macrocosmic perspective, attempts to paint both sides grey but falls short of that. That's just my opinion and it's mostly opinionated from Mobile Suit (79'). If Char wasn't using one side as a conduit for chaos [against that side] I think we'd have a better time reading between the lines. However if Char was a dedicated solider, not hellbent on vengeance, we'd definitely have some grey matter.

Lie until what you want to be true becomes truth. Lie until you can't remember what's a lie and what isn't.  Lie until you aren't lying anymore!
