As I said in the title I think that we deport Ueno too much.
I know she did very bad things and nearly killed Nishimaya but I think this is all bacuse of her love to Ishida. I think she was a good person until she metts with Ishida primary school. She were in love whit him too much and she agreed everything he did. This is my idea but I think that we shouldn't call her bad person.
I think if Ishida talked with her calmly and peacefully non of these would happen. What is your ideas about this?

I mean kinda yeah but at the same time saying that it was love isn’t really a reason to attack Nishimaya. She didn’t show love to Ishida at all until the end and just put all of her remorse for him and fueled her hatred for Nishimaya. I’m pretty sure I’m missing something thanks to the fact that this is just how I remember the movie though.

I disagree, she is most definitely a bad person in the sense of looking at what she did in the movie. She physically and mentally hurt Shouko. Being in love doesn’t give you the right to hurt someone else. In her first meeting with Shouko after she moved away, Ueno took her hearing aids and started tossing them around. If she is in love with Shoya, then wouldn’t it be better to be friends with Nishimiya since she’s close with the one she loves?

Maybe she saw them as couples and hated her?

All I’ll say, is the ends don’t justify the means. A bad thing is always bad, doesn’t change for the reason no that you’re actually doing it.

I don’t think that’s the way you’re supposed to see her character.
Regardless of her feelings, it doesn’t justify her actions against Shouko.
“She/He did it out of love” is not a free pass for wrong doings.

If she actually loved Ishida, she would have stood up for him in kindergarten instead of letting him take the blame like everyone else.
This is a grounded (ie, no supernatural) story. *Almost killing Nishimaya* cannot be defended with "but she was in love with her bully"

I genuinely hate how easy she gets off at the end of the movie after all the shit she does

so... you sayin' that because she had feelings for a guy and she wanted him to like her it makes what she did okay?

I agree but she’s still a bad person. She hurt and beat up Shouko who was just trying to fit in with the community. At least she redeemed herself in the end of the manga but for Miki she’s a narcissist bitch who always wants to play the victim and she was also part of the bullying of Shouko. She pretends as if she’s done nothing wrong. When I watched the movie I felt like slapping her and Ueno. Ueno was friendly towards Shouko at first and actually the person who looked after Shouko. This responsibility was dumped on her because of the seating position. The problem was Shouko was always relying on Ueno and there wasn’t any progress in Shouko’s performance in clas and it affected Ueno’s class performance . And she will feel hard done when the teacher scolds her and gives Shouko a free pass when they mess up. This was the beginning of Ueno’s resentment of Shouko and when she saw Ishida tormenting Shouko it was a stress relief for her.

I understand your ideas but I never said that things she did are not bad. I only say if her enviroment was better and more friendly, I am sure she wouldn't have done these. I think she all did because Ishida did the same things too.

She still did some bad things. If it's love then it'll not go that far.

That still doesn’t give her the right to assault someone. No matter what the reason, it’s still horrible. She is still a bad person.

For sure Ueno did some bad shit, but so did all this kids, kids can be fucking cruel. If anything coming outta the film I felt Ueno was one of the more realistic portrayed characters, she acted selfishly because she had her own best interest in mind. She decided she didn’t like someone and there was no changing that but in the end she’ll try to coexist with the person she didn’t like for the sake of the friends she did like.

I actually agree with the op. For me, Ueno is not a bad person. She's just socially awkward. In a broad sense, she is the most honest character in the whole series. We see a lot of fake people in this series and to me she stand out because her honesty and how to the point she is. She didn't like Shouko, so she said it to her face. She wanted to befriend Ishida with Shimada again because she care. Ste even nurse sick Ishida voluntarily. Too bad she has a bad upbringing thus she became a bit of a rash and harsh person

" No Officer , I actually loved the boy and I was jealous . I swear I'm not a bad person I killed the girl out of jealousy , I'm innocent "

Her "love" for the Ishida or sum shit doesn't give her the pass to bully an innocent person .

OP.. no, just no.

There's NOTHING that justifies bullying and violence towards anyone who means absolutely no harm to you. The girl bullied Nishimiya before she even became friends with Ishida (back when they were kids in elementary school, she teared off Nishimiya's hearing aids and then threw it to Ishida, if memory doesn't fail me). She hates Nishimiya for being different. I wouldn't call that jealousy. I also wouldn't put the blame on Ishida for that brat's evil behavior.

She's really one of the characters I hate most in anime.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

yes, she has her reasons for what she did, but that doesn't excuse her actions in any way. i don't hate her character as much as others and i could sympathize with her in the manga, but she isn't a good person.
