Has anybody else seen an extended cut of the movie? Just re-watched the movie in theaters, and was confused on why I felt like some scenes were cut out. Got home and check on my Blu-ray copy of the movie and still was unable to find the scenes. I originally streamed the movie and was wondering if there is an extended version somewhere?

Apparently there could be a Japan exclusive, extended cut of the movie and I'm hoping to find it if it's real.

Apparently there is a Japan exclusive, extended cut of the movie. Honestly appalled at how it was never released globally, because the extended cut is so much better. Sad thing is, the only way for us to watch it is through a piracy site (how I originally saw the extended version) or I guess a JP blu ray, with no english subs.

Lucky you, even I wanna watch it but what were the extra scenes that is extended in the movie?

Wow, you are very lucky to be able to watch the extended version of the film. I liked it very much as well. I want to collect the manga someday, it's an excellent series from the point of view of the story, asrtstyle and characters!!!

I wonder the same thing :)
I'm curious to see what I missed so spectacularly and if the length of the film will significantly increase or if there are only a few scenes!

Yeah, I'm curious because I watched a JPBD encode. So, maybe I already watched the extra scenes op is talking about.

I couldn't find any reliable info about an extended cut, so I don't quite believe it exists.

@Zarutaku Yeah there is like nothing that talks about the extended cut. The original site I watched it at got taken down, and apparently none of the other sites have the extended version.

I would believe that I just made it up, but I watched the movie with 4 other people who also have seen the extended version. On the way back from the movie (we car pooled) we all talked about how different this version of the movie was.

3/5 of us have read the manga, so I could imagine us knowing more about the series. However, the two of us that did not read the manga were able to explain stuff only shown through extra scenes from the version we watched.

I'm going to keep looking for the extended cut, and will post pics or a video that shows the differences if I can find it. If not, I will re-read the manga and add a reply with all the changes we can remember.

@NegativeRei @CursedMonarch-69 @Yeshaiah2015yesh @Thecrot See my earlier reply for some more context. I'll be back with better examples, but for a brief summary: the changes that we remembered just explained or reinforced ideas from the manga better. One or two scenes were done way better in the extended version, but for the most part, if you don't know it's now the end of the world.

Will, when I watched his series, I was new and still a pirate, yah I watched it in sub, and in the BD version, In a pirated website(which now became the NO:1 website, after the previous NO 1 got shutdown). so I was wondering if send the link to that sit, can you tell me, what's the extended part was.

@Yeshaiah2015yesh I would but it no longer exists, if I find another site or some way to watch it officially I'll point you in the right direction.

I've tried looking on other sites already, but have not found the version I remember yet. I'll take some more time to search after work today.

Bothers me lot because either it's lost media, or the whole group of people I rewatched it with somehow separately made up the exact same scenes. I'm going to flip through the managa again to see of they show up there, but only 3/5 of us read the manga.

@KaptainKoolaid

https://kwik.si/f/NlJotHMbgxXi

you can download the episodes with that link above, it's the BD version it's quality second to nun, total 800mb. watching in that site is a nightmare but with all that pop up ads, but if you download it, it's only a single ad.

I don't want to be left hanging, I wnat to clear up wither it was a misunderstanding or if it actually has an extended version.

you can download now and watch it tomorrow. and tell me. but download fast, right now, the link will expire with in an hour.

Interestingly, all I could find was the normal version, I'm really curious to see what the extended version looks like!

Here is a list of changed that we remember from the extended cut. I just skimmed through the manga, so ill give context on events that do happen in the manga but were not in the movie and stuff that we remember, but were not in the manga at all.

Stuff that the manga supports

1. Granny's death was revealed through Yuzuru's camera before the funeral scene. This matches up with the manga directly. ***This scene is what started the whole conversation on the extended cut. I remember waiting for this scene specifically in the theater, but never seeing it and being confused.***

2. There is slightly more context on Shouya's bike. At the beginning of the movie he uses his mom's bike then later on you can see him using a different bike. From what I remember, there is at least one extra line in the extended version that tells us that gives context on him using his mom's bike.

3. Ueno gave Shouya the cat pouch before it was gifted to Shouko. We remember there being specifically more context on this, but could not agree on what actually happened. It either happened while in the cafe or while they were leaving similar to the manga. ***Watching the "normal version" it just feels short and kinda ends abruptly after Ueno walks out.***

4. Slightly more context on how Yaeko did not approve of Yuzuru's photos.

5. Slightly more context on how Shouko is loosing her hearing. The movie already does this well, but there was slightly more context on how it was effecting her and possibly edging her towards suicide.

Stuff not supported by the manga

1. Near the end of the movie when Shouko gets slapped by Miyako when she tries to apologize. This did not happen in the manga at all, there is a scene where Shouko gets slapped by Kawai and a part where Miyako doesn't know how to respond to Shouko while she apologizes, but Miyako does not slap Shouko. ***This is the most BS scene that at least two of us remember happening, but makes the least sense.***

If none of these scenes ring any bells for anybody then I'm just going to assume that my group has some type of Mandela effect or we made up scenes based on context from the manga (even through we did not all read the manga). I'm still going to search for the extended version of the movie that I remember and will post something if I can find it, but so far Ive only found dead ends so I'm loosing hope.

Don't mean to go off topic but this reminds me of how Japan has an exclusive Angel Beats box set that contains an additional OVA episode (Hell's Kitchen). I own the US release of Angel Beats (on Blu Ray and DVD) and only have the original OVA (Stairway to Heaven) not both like the JP box set. A whole different movie and an extra ova are completely different, but it just gets me thinking.

Just spoke with my brother (he has watched the movie 11 times and is one of the people who swears that stuff is missing) and even he is starting to doubt that there is an extended cut of the movie. This and the lack of any information to support it's existence is making me loose hope.

There's actually one on YouTube right now—the extended version. The newest scene I didn't recognize is the shmup game at the beginning. Here's the link: https://youtu.be/ocWHl4s3BzI?si=g5WJB3fNo8vcM5rR
