Should SAO have ended early?

After watching episode 14 of SAO I felt with a little tweaks it could have been a great ending. After this, the series is pretty bad and it feels like it already peeked. So do y’all think it should have ended early or it’s just fine like this?

Yes. If it would end after first arc, it would be an actually good series.
But author had to keep milking it, while he clearly ran out of ideas and as a result, every consecutive episode was getting worse and worse.

I think that season 2 was not that good as the others but its really not that bad , ienjoyed every season tho even if it wasn't as good as the first one

For me it was very frustrating, Alfheim was shit and Season 2 wasn't that great either. Season 3 was great but it would be better if SOA would end in Season 2 oder at least Season 1 Episode 24

I honestly feel the opposite, since I think SAO had the potential to be a long series IF the SAO part of the story was made longer and they didn't do a bunch of huge time-skips. I think the series would've been a lot better if they just spent each season struggling through and figuring out SAO, and fletching out the story and characters instead of just jumping through different games/digital worlds and then somehow relating it back to SAO.

You said about the milking money right than Just imagine if SAO was hated that much how it would have made huge amounts of money and series light novels and manga are still on going. It is also the best selling light novel.

Yeah It should have..
It should have ended in GGO because the second half (SAO S2) is boring, so is Alicization.
But I had to admit Ordinal Scale is really good, such a shame it's sequel sucks..

I don't think that SAO has to be ended but I say that they have compressed many things. So this could be directors fault but it doesn't matter now .I don't have any complaints.

It's successful so in that sense, no? Personal preference wise, I did prefer the first half of the first season over the second season so my score would probably be higher.

Well, if it ended early, Alicization wouldn't be made (which I enjoyed the most) so, I think not.

Well if it ended earlier then my score on it would be higher and I wouldn't have to see that horrible season 2 but then again we couldn't have seen sao alicization which was the best of sao.

I wish I’d ended it after 14 or 15 when the first arc ended it would have been a good ending for the show and probably would be known as a good/great anime instead of the anime people first watch then realize how bad it is later

It open the trend of lots mediocre gary stu Isekai-esque type of series that coming out after. It shouldn't even started.

If we remove fairy tale arc, asuna mom arc and Excalibur arc. Series was actually good with great and realistic concept.

Yes, if they had only kept the first part of season 1. Other Good things in anime was its movie about AR(Augmented reality) which was kinda of new and season 3 was somewhat beareble(except alicization which was trash). The other parts were booring and shouldn't have been released.

I feel the first part of first season like the show was extremely rushed. We didnt actually see people do anything. They was like in 30th floor after 4 episodes without even one bossfight shown. And then after few episodes in 60th.

Sword art online is an great series but I can agree with you guys at this point they stretched anime episodes too far and long now it’s no point in continue they should have given it the proper ending or they can make sword art online infinity where the whole gang struggle never ends until they all died

YES. Dear god, yes. Sword Art Online would have received nearly no hate, criticism and some distaste in some of the worse scenes? Yes, hatred? No. The first arc took an incredibly original concept and built off of it beautifully. Hell, I’d even say some of the other arcs were cool too, I personally enjoyed GGO up until the end where the author fell into his sexually deprived fanfic mode. But the author ran out of ideas but liked his coolguy kirito character and wanted him to keep going and going into more adventures.

No lol it can’t be ended early as the demand was so high why would any author not milk it. Love it or hate it SAO define the last decade of anime. Just like Kyoto Animation started the moe meta Gotta thank SAO for the isekai meta.

I agree, I wasn't a huge fan of SAO and it started to decline the further you progressed through the show. (S1) I haven't watched past that, but I've heard the latest one isn't too bad, have also heard the LN's are infinitely better.

Agree with the first arc can be expand and become hardcore setting, doesn't need to jump to another game, because there will many events in the game, and make other season become one of event or anything in the sao world.
