So uhhh... I kept thinking at the end. Didn't a bunch of monster rats abduct a bunch of kids from that hospital. Thats why 'ogre' was there right? To help the rats do that job....
Then we are just left to assume that they were all rescued i guess?

Doesn't sit well with me. If that rats are as smart as humans they could hide a few kids for 10 years... I doubt squeeler was the only rat that would take up their cause...

Can any novel readers explain this better?

I think it was implied that something similar will happen again if the humans keep treating the rats the same.

Well it wasn't in the anime, so it must have been in the novel.
The series had potential to be one of the greats. But some sloppy writing and leaving too much up for interpretation didn't work well within the story to me.

This is not adapted from a LN but rather a novel, which was later adapted into a manga as well after whose popularity the anime was decided most probably. And so the story is over and there won't be a continuation most probably.
