As the title implies, what are some moments where you thought that the VA really went out of their way to give a stellar performance and really flexed those VA skills?

My favorite is Akira Ishida's "Shinigami" rakugo from Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū episode 10.
It's literally unnerving when he tells it and you really experience Akira Ishida's whole spectrum of voice in that one scene. Especially the whole anime.

oh wow impressive! i didn't know ishida voiced rakugo in showa genroku rakugo shinju! he was in gintama as katsura and really delivered the lines great too!

I'd say many of Gintama's voice actors really flexed their ranges haha... things can get pretty crazy

this live voice acting by Sarutobi Ayame's voice actor Kobayashi Yuu is very memorable for me cuz she really flexed her voice and showed how weird her character is

Honestly the dub for the Endeavor and Hawks vs High end. In MHA season 4 was rather good. It was when the pandemic freshly started. With the dub anime taking hits. Not being able to stay constant. So after weeks they decided the voice actors would VA at home. In which the dub sounded well to. If I wasn't told it was done at home. I would've thought it was the same quality.

Endeavor's voice actor got to show off there. Especially with Endeavor going all out while going through a wide range of emotion. Along with the introduction to Hawks English voice. Which is well approved by the whole community. At the end of the day. Great voice acting for a great moment. With it all leading back to a great series.

I only recently finished the first season of Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and its essentially an anime that goes deep into acting, I was really impressed with Akira Ishida's acting in this one.
He has voiced some classics like Zeref from FT, and as you mentioned Katsura in Gintama. However, I really found his work in Rakugo very unique since he almost speaks like a woman in some scenes.
Criminally underrated anime imo despite being so high up on the ratings.

Gintama is consistent with amazing acting and a really good yet twisted storyline, I love the actors and the series.

Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Betelgeuse in Re:Zero, from heroine magnet protagonist AKA harem king to psychotic nut like Betelgeuse, he is really awesome. Also Light's evil laugh by Mamoru Miyano, still amazing as hell.

david wald in general for me has been an amazing VA but there's not really a particular scene that is noteable. It's moreso his wide range where he can voice someone like golgo 13 to dornell from amagi brilliant park to hosei sanagida in princess resurrection.

he does a lot of roles that you wouldn't expect him to do.

I'm level on mal-badges. View my badges.

I've never even watched the show but that was one of the best VA performances I've ever seen anywhere
I don't speak English that much, so please cut me some slack

I came here to praise the best voice acting performance I've ever seen (or heard?), but OP did the job. Very special mention Yamadera Kouichi too, who also gave his all as Sukeroku.

Since I must give another answer, I would say Mamoru Miyano's performance as Okabe Rintarou never fails to impress or thrill me, especially in Steins;Gate 0.

Literally everyone in that anime did a great job. Megumi Hayashibara wasn't even a rakugo artist in the anime but she literally sings the OP of the anime and absolutely nails her performance as Miyokichi.

Okabe and Mayuri's VAs did a REALLY good job in their roles. I totally agree.

As the OP mention, Shouwa Genruko Rakugo Shinjuu is a masterclass with multiple voice actors (Akira Ishida, Tomokazu Seki, and others) flexing their skills. The rakugo sequences, in particular, must have been very difficult to perform. The VA not only has to carry the conversation solo for multiple minutes, but they also have to interact with themselves with different personas in the same scene.

I've seen behind the scenes (unfortunately can't find since it's been years) with Yotaro's voice actor Tomokazu Seki. In the behind the scenes, they recorded Tomokazu Seki acting out a full rakugo sequence in one take. The video mentioned that was done to maintain the tempo and spirit of the conversations. That was so impressive.

The three girls from Asobi Asobase, all these screaming etc, their VA seems really loves their job.

Underrated anime that definitely needs more viewers to watch it and appreciate the material.
The acting, the story, the music, the visuals, everything lands perfect.
And that's just the first season, I still need to watch S2 which I've heard is better than the first one.

I also watched the first season and it was really great. highly rated! ishida is really skilled to immerse the audience into the story with only his voice and some slight movements in his character on the screen. his work is pretty unique, i didn't recognize it when i had watched the anime! Quite underrated too, most of the people who talk about Katsura's VA only talk about how he voiced Gaara and Zeref too, but he did such an amazing job in Rakugo :o

Ive posted this before on a VA performance thread, so I'll just post it again here... These two performances are my favorite ever

1- Matsuoka Yoshitsugu playing Betelgeuse in the anime Re:zero (Just for your information, this voice actor is mostly known for playing shounen main characters like Kirito from SAO, Souma from Shokugeki no Souma, and Uesugi Fuutaro from Quintessential Quintuplets. But his performance here sounds nothing like them at all)

2- Hina Kino playing Hanako Honda in the anime Asobi Asobase

The cat tongue twister from Monogatari.
