So, I was watching the latest video on Digital Foundry about future proofing hardware for the next generation.

Their recommendations for my case are a little too expensive. I mainly play Fighting games like Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, FighterZ, Street Fighter, Tekken and the like. I also play mostly indie games and the heaviest stuff I am expecting to play is Resident Evil 8. I've seen benchmarks and the RE engine doesn't seem too demanding on PC.

I play mainly on PS4 and my current Laptop (i5 5th generation with 910mx, used mostly for emulation) is barely holding up due to thermal issues so I am looking for the opportunity to upgrade and switch to full time PC gaming on the next generation. It must be a laptop as I need the portability due to also using it for uni and as a GM screen.

The second hand market in my country is way too bullshit (people charge full price for 5 year old hardware) so a desktop and a laptop is simply out of question for me.

I am just looking for high-ultra at 1080p 60hz, though I don't mind making compromises in things like shadows and ambient occlusion. The Acer nitro 5 and Dell G3 are right on the limit of my budget and both come with a 1650 4GB. Is this enough?

>future proof

wait for DDR5 then since it will increase future APUs performance drastically with its RAM speed

DDR5 and next gen APU (Navi2) will be out as early as next year

but if you cannot wait next year then check this out

I really can't, my current laptop is probably going to die before. Isn't a 1650 better than any APU?

Getting a "future proof" laptop for up to $,1000: Not happening.

Getting a budget laptop that can last a few years with reasonable expectations for up to $1,000: You already found your options.

Master dropper Linus recommends it. I'll link you to a review of it down below so you can check it out yourself. You can easily find benchmarks of games on that GPU.

Next laptop needs to be a gaming one. Intel Graphics just doesn't cut it.
