Rating anime has never really been a huge issue for me and the decisions were pretty easy. (even though I stress about everything from picking favourite characters to favourite series).

I recently rewatched BNHA and was wondering how to rate it, it definitely isn't the best written but it shot up to the top of my list and I really love it. However, I'm not sure how to rate it. Rating it 10/10 from enjoyment would be kind of silly, but 7/10 wouldn't be expressing what I really feel.
So there's that.
Also how do you rate the different seasons? What if I like the series as a whole?
And also how do you rate OVAS and Movies? For example, I really loved the Bnha movie, but because I was already invested in the chracters, I'll give it a 10/10 for enjoyment only, even though the whole plot was insanely predictable and cliche. And also for Attack on Titan, the Ovas were only good to me because i loved the story, how should I rate these things?

Up to you honestly, it’s your ratings after all. I’m not the best person to be giving advice to this since I pretty much don’t like MHA as a whole.

Well, for me at least, I continually normalize my list to meet my "system." That way I don't get in the same predicament you find yourself in.

I reserve 10's for ONLY anime's which were super memorable and meaningful to my life. I've set a personal limit here to ten 10's because if I rate more a 10 it would lose it's value as a rating.

9's are also something I'm trying to rarely give out. These are reserved for anime's which I love to death, impacted me in some way, but not quite to the life-changing level 10's did.

From there, I rate from quality. So for me, an 8 is what a lot of people may consider a 10. If an anime was REALLY good, it gets an 8. It only gets a 9 or 10 if it impacted me on some deep level.

I'm also trying to skew my average rating down. For me, a 5 would be a good anime. One that I enjoy, but isn't amazing. Currently my average is 6.5, which is because I simply don't watch a lot of animes I don't think are going to be very good. But that is the system I have.

So using my system, if 10's and 9's are reserved for your all-time, absolutely most important anime to you, then an 8 or 7 won't seem unfair at all, would it?

Edit: also in my book, I don't rate really on enjoyment. I enjoyed Demon Slayer a ton, but it's only a 6. Wasn't super innovative, unique, or special outside of it's music and animation.

Just rate it how you want to, I rate shows based on enjoyment because I don't see a reason to rate in any other way

I'd suggest asking a journalistic instead of MAL, preferably one who does reviews.

If it's not too important, then does your criteria really matter? Just rate things how you feel they should.

Just rate it based on how you enjoyed things, it's your list and there's no reason to make it appeal to anyone else's style. As for your example with MHA, I'd suggest just kinda taking the average of both aspects and rate it like an 8 or 9

It is your rating so do what you want. Unless you are publishing the rating or you getting paid or you are activity criticizing, nobody cares. Just come up with your rating format.

For me:
10: biggest personal impact + Masterpiece to me.
9: Big personal impact + here and there things that bug me but otherwise amazing show.
8: Amazing show. Really enjoyed it. Not drastic personal impact.
7: Average good show.
6-1: changes depending on how much I hate the series lol

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just rate as you enjoyed anime. I sometimes don't enjoy anime or other media but will still rate it around average. You can weigh in animation, sound, efforts, innovation, concept while rating it. I don't like to rate it too low, even if I didn't like it. Some websites depend heavily on weighted score of top or more active members. I don't want to contribute to dissuading others from discovering something, because I rated it low, just because it wasn't for me. I use ratings to discover anime because can't watch them all :)

I miss decent OVA's
Point of OVA's to be able to animate as much of the stuff you aren't allowed to broadcast on TV. There has been a lack of good ova's

Enjoyment thumps all for me since 95% of the time the only flaws I notice tend to be the only ones that bothered me.

My favorite part of ratings is the way people define their 10s

This prestine classification is reserved exclusively for the most brilliant among masterpieces, those works than can only be conceived as the epitome of animation, timeless stories that offer insight into the depths of life itself And then they always go Perfection may never truly be achieved for human nature is anything but godly, but among this select group of artworks one shall find the next best thing to perfection

and I'm like bruh calm down
