The only thing i disliked was all the fighting in the second half. Other than that, it's a masterpiece.

So far I am 9 episodes in and although I wouldn’t call this anime bad at all, it’s definitely not anything praise worthy as of yet either. Fairly generic tropes and story line. The swimming pool opening day episode was really funny, I laughed a lot! But other than that rest was forgettable and nothing much stood out. I think this show is just too slow and bland for me. I usually look up to top rated anime list for new picks because they usually tend to be better than average. With toradara, the first time I watched it I dropped it at 4 episodes for similar reason. This time after years I wanted to start with fresh mind and started watching from ep 1, but 9 eps in, I am struggling to keep the enthusiasm going. I really want to finish this series at some point though.

I’m watching this for the first time in 2020 and as with Jagara

I also started watching the toaru series last year (both Index and Railgun), and I feel Toradora falls into the same “trap” of feeling as old as it is. I realise as I’m writing this post that they’re all made my JC Staff, and I get the sense that the shows they made back then are very beholden to the “meta” of the scene at the time. If you don’t have the context then you will probably struggle to enjoy it. As Deknijff said,

considering the context of 2008/2009 Id say its easy to know why Toradora was popular and well liked.

Series scores don’t necessarily make sense if you look at them through current eyes. You gotta treat them like a time capsule. Look at The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. If you play that for the first time now it’s gosh dang trash. But in the context of the late 90s it makes a lot of sense that it’s one of the highest rated games of all time.

I think a lot of anime is the same. It’s hard to tell genuinely timeless classics from stuff that was simply well loved when it was brand new and relevant.

Toradora seems like it’s a pretty good series. It’s not timeless though, and it’s score feels a little inflated to me. But, 9 episodes in, it’s by no means bad.
We’ll see if my tune changes when I get to the later episodes though (that seems to be where the reasonable beef arises).

Cons:
- The fucking drama got ridiculous towards the end there. Especially during that scene with the valentines chocolate. As well as the one were Ryuuji told his mother off, and then accepted money from his friends to run away. Those two scenes made me want to slap the shit out of both the MC's.
- The entire Minorin x Ryuuji business was handled horribly in my opinion. I felt Minorin got shafted hard, and ended up looking like some kind of martyr. Would have preferred if the entire thing had been resolved during the Christmas episode. Instead of dragging on the drama till the end.
- Ami's feeling for Ryuuji remained fairly vague, kinda bothered me that he remained oblivious but she seemed to get over it pretty quick. So at least it didn't turn into another melodrama. Though it did bother me that whenever they were having a conversation it was always interrupted.

I know this is an old thread but felt compelled to add my 2-pence simply because I had to air my frustration. This series did initially live up to the hype but my god, how many times can an important conversation be interrupted and never get followed up at a more conveninet time? The author really overdid the dozen or so times that happened resulting in a ridiculous amount of open-ended feelings/situations never actually being openly discussed. This was pretty much the premise all the way through - misunderstanding upon misunderstanding. Sure the character development was done relatively well and I can get on board with the whole dense MC thing - but Ryuuji is up up there with the most ridiculous ones spending the entire series not getting a clue at all (even at the end). Probably one of my most lowest scoring watches which is dissapointing as so many rate it highly.

Everything was fine, the side characters, the character development, the comedy...but the plot. At first it was going smoothly but kind of slow for me, and then it became too cheesy and I dare to say a bit cringy too. But i guess that's how most romance high school anime go. The last 2-3 episodes literally made me drop the rating for the show. I still enjoyed it a lot but oh my god.

Likable tsundere
Likable male lead
Great support cast ( I love Ami)
Decent drama
Characters are fleshed out and developed
Relationships between the characters are interesting ( especially the chemistry between Ami and Ryuji)
Comdey that is actually funny
Lovable atmosphere
A lot of emotional and powerful scenes
Nice OP/ED and OST
Nice art style

and...

Those are my reasons for liking Toradora and I consider it special because I watched it really early on, which I guess made me love it since I wasn't used to school romance. I would have given it a 9 if it weren't for that stupid student council arc with all that melodrama and fan-service fight, that was just awful, I hate Kitamura.

1.She was the worst character in the show for me, way to obnoxious and annoying which is rare for me cause I like tsundere's in general. Had a friend like her when I was in high school, I had to distance myself from her as soon I could.
2.I completely agree, related to him from time to time.
3. Only Ami rest was meh
4.Sometimes but most of the time was way too forced or cringey.
5. Kinda but not really
6.I agree more or less
7.Meh, very repetitive
8.Agree
9. Didn't really do it for me because of what I said on "4" lot of it seems way to forced just for the sake of drama.
10.Agree
11. Agree
12. Kiss scene didn't do anything for me tbh

Also the marriage thing was really stupid, no one in their right mind would ask someone to marry them when they haven't even been in an actual relationship and never even kissed once before. I am sure a lot of us in their group of friends found that one girl/boy that you kinda like but you are not really sure but you get along really well and kinda flirt with each other. Imagine just asking them out of nowhere "Do you want to marry me?" . :|

I liked the show (7/10).

And what I like about it is pretty simple. I like Taiga and Ryuuji. I liked their dynamic and how their relationship evolved. I thought the show did a pretty good job of blending comedy, drama and romance.

That said, I didn't really like Ami, Kitamura or Minorin. And the whole elopement crap was WHACK; a terrible "arc" to end the series.

So why do I like it "so much"? Well, I don't. But it was a good, enjoyable/emotional show with a couple memorable characters.

Personally, I felt that the characters were not very attractive (art wise). I get why it has good ratings but I feel like my lack of attachment to the characters made me not love the show as much.

hmm, id agree that it was pretty boring at the start, it took me awhile to get interested in it too. i think that what really made me love it was the sweet, stubborn connection between Ryuuji & Taiga. [SPOILER] that scene in ep 19 which everyone wld say is one of the highlights of the anime, it really broke me & made me love it so much more. with Taiga screaming, ‘RYUJJIIII’ after she realised that he had left & made her realise her love for him gave me THE CHILLS.

i would also agree that it literally shocked me when they decided to get married so quickly which is something i disliked abt the anime, but otherwise the ending was really bittersweet too with taiga leaving & reuniting with ryuuji towards the end credits. not to mention that Toradora’s OST, ‘lost in my pieces’, is definitely so emotional too once you finish the anime & listen to it. i can’t even count how much times ive sobbed to it but the soundtrack is what makes me miss the anime so much more as you recall the sweet memories of the two. it’s an amazing romance & comedy anime and i definitely think that ill never find another anime that’s as heartwarming as Toradora.

It's not as good as i expected. I heard somewhere that this anime is sad, I cried though not as much as I expected. It's definitely better than the average highschool romcom

I watched the entire thing and while I liked most of it, I'm not so impressed with the ending.

It's like okay, we're gonna elope but we've never kissed. But now we've kissed and I'm gonna run away from you. Okay sure. :/

But let's not forget that we spent the entire two years before this pining away for other people who actually liked us the whole time, but put their own feelings away for the sake of ours.

Yeaaaaah no that's not how high school works at all.

A great anime indeed. Really love Ryuji and Taiga's growing love for one another. Also, Ami, Minorin,Kitamura and the other friends were great support characters that would make the show even more enjoyable. The goofy scenes, how they work together to solve an issue, the drama/love triangles. The OPs and EDs were very catchy. I prefer the EDs of Tordora. Also. Ryuji's mom is the best. The bgm is great as well. Especially when two them sound familiar to Doki Doki Literature Club. Overall, the show had a great key components to make you wanting more amd see how it will end. Especially with a positive ending for the main characters. Now I'm curious of whag the future will hold for them. Onwards to the specials/light novel/manga

No idea, Toradora is quite generic but I don't think Taiga and Ryuuji are bad characters, the problem are the terrible side characters. The first 10 episodes were so boring and the plot was going nowhere. The rest of the show focused on characters that I didn't really care about and the ending was rushed. Its more cliché when I compare Toradora with Oregairu and Kaguya-sama. Oregairu is a character study and touches deep themes while Kaguya-sama has a better combination of romance, drama and comedy especially comedy since its quite hilarious. Also, Toradora! has the advantage that it came out much earlier when romcoms. It didn't age well.

whats not to like? it's a gripping romantic comedic drama about two people helping each other over there family issues and past and eventually falling for each other.

Like, the Anime is good but not what the people are talking about it. It is seriously overrated. I felt that the Anime was boring in the start and the Romance between Ryuuji and Taiga just rushed up too quickly...

the fact that ryuuji was too beta to kick taiga's teeth down her throat after beating him for the millionth time is why this show is garbage. imagine if the roles were reversed? taiga comes and tries to help ryuuji with his housework or makes him food then he proceeds to beat the crap out of her...imagine that.
