I wanna watch a fantasy/sci-fi anime from the last few years that's a complete experience(ie, no read the manga ending, and there's a conclusive, satisfying ending) that's serious. No slice of life anime please.

Also, if you're willing. try to tell me what it's about, and why you recommend it without going into spoilers.

Edit:

Here's some of my faves that are examples of the type of shows that I'm looking for that are more than a few years old: Keep in mind I'm looking for things that are only a few years old at the most.

Now and Then, Here and There
Madoka Magica
Serial Experiments Lain
Outlaw Star
Armitage III: Poly-Matrix
Gunsmith Cats
Stigma of the Wind
Shigofumi: Letters from the Departed
Fate/Zero
Wolf Children
Maria the Virgin Witch
ERASED
Nausicaa of the Wind
Guyver
Zetman
Psycho-Pass
Chiaka the Coffin Princess
Terror in Resonance
Plastic Memories
---

I'm really into anime, but I don't have many people to talk about it with reguarly. So please, add me on AIM: Superrpgman2003 or Skype:Superrpgman. Or just send me a private message here.

I'd relax that time period restriction and watch Noein. It riffs on the many-worlds interpretation of quantum theory.

Oh wow, liking this so far.

Still taking recommendations, but I definately wanna watch more of this.

Edit: Ok I saw the three episodes so far, but I'm not sure if I wanna continue this or not. The last half of the third episode was reaaaaaaaaallly slow, and I feel like I don't really understand what's going on. I'm kinda afraid that this whole series is gonna drag its heels Can you quell my fears, because I really want to like this.

@MorteTorment keep watching Noein, and also give a try to Fantastic Children and Dennou Coil. Don't let the last one's kiddie appereance fool you, it has one of the best realistic science-fiction world building within show.

And for serious fantasy i would recomend:
- Kemono no Souja Erin
- Juuni Kokuki
- Seirei no Moribito
- Princess Tutu

That doesn't rally address why I'm afraid to continue the series perse.

Also, Princess Tutu is a comedy.

And seriously, can someone please explain to me why the criteria of serious, sci-fi/Fantasy, and not slice of life, and with an actual ending is so limiting that you all gotta go back 5 or 6 years just to name anything?

Edit: Hell, I figured that there'd be some recommendations you all could give from the last few seasons.

No, Princess Tutu is not a comedy, latter episodes are much darker, the first one is just to fool the audience.

Maybe because you've seen all the good and popular ones. That's why i need to go back, and i wouldn't say i went that much back.

Regardless, you'll all acting like I'm asking the most complicated math equation.

Hell, I figured that there'd be sever recommendations you all could give from the last few seasons. I imagine that if I was still watching anime I'd be able to mention several.

Sorry, i do what i can. And believe me, asking for recomendations in MAL sometimes is harder than math equation.

Changing Japanese tastes have made serious science-fiction a dying breed. There are still shounen shows like Fire Force, but after a few episodes it was too silly and had too much gratuitous fanservice for me to continue.

I would have recommended shows like Mahoutsukai no Yome or Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryouko, but I suspect you'd find they have too much "slice-of-life" material. I'm guessing that's why you stopped watching Noein as well.

You could try Re:Creators. I thought it was pretty good up through the recap, but I didn't think much of the ending.

Gatchaman Crowds has some of the most serious material I've seen in recent years, especially around the issues of social media and its potential for "soft fascism," but you didn't like that much it seems either. Its director, Nakamura Kenji, made Tsuritama, a comedy with a sci-fi subplot. You could also try his [C] as well. Frankly, Nakamura's supernatural "Apothecary" shows, the "Bake Neko" arc that concludes the series Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales, and its successor, the series Mononoke, are still his best works in my mind.

I would take Seirei no Moribito off your PTW list, but I fear you'll find that has too much SOL material as well. Juuni Kokuki ("Twelve Kingdoms") is one of the best fantasy shows I've ever watched, but it's from 2002-2003. It's been revived by Crunchyroll. I'll warn you that it takes half-a-dozen episodes to really get going.

Hataraku Saibou ("Cells at Work!) might also be something you'd like. More science-fact than science-fiction, though our cells don't really live in large cities with hordes of Killer T cells running around yelling "Kill! Kill!" or cute little Platelets fixing our wounds. It's a lot of fun, though, and I suggest following along with this: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaAsA2s3QNBcZlyiwnCICDE_ePlIjW1y0
