In the past few days I've made an anime list with a design that needs to use PNG. However, an ugly black line appears ruining the whole image (the line is apperantly where the image starts) Why is that? Is there a way to erase it?

While I'm on that...Why does the PNG get a black outline? It's terribly annoying....

Please look at my list to see what I'm talking about....

*sigh* Goes to struggle some more*

Where is it?

Besides, you could just convert it to another image type.

To a what image type? PNG are the only images that allow see through-ness right?

The back line is in the middle, you need to wait for everything to load and then the hand and elbow will overlap the list...

I can post a screenie of you want?^^

Here is the link to the screen shot : here

I outlined (crudely I might add) the areas I'm talking about.

Do you have any idea why is it doing this?

What browser are you using?

By any chance, maybe it's browser capabilities thing. Hmm...

Ah, that's it probably. IE7 and below don't really read PNG.

Try using the latest Firefox (2.0) or Opera or Safari, or maybe even lolifox. Should be good. ^^b

I had this same problem on the last list I made with overlaying PNGs, and it is an IE rendering problem. Firefox and Opera blend the border areas correctly. Removing the gamma metadata from the PNG doesn't help either.

But the PNG shows, just wierdly XD

Anyway, thank you all. I'll just give it to him without the effect. Hopefully that will un-screw up everything =P

EDIT : As you can see Iri, I am following the old code of yours^^"... So wait. Basically, this is just on IE and everyone else sees it ok? Or....?

Well, as far as I know Firefox, Safari, etc. are standardized browsers made by developers for full capabilities such as CSS and in this case, the newest popular image format, PNG. IE, Netscape, etc. are the old days browsers. They made a new IE to help this problem but it still fails. Anyways, I hope your list's gonna be back all right. Chibs out~ XD

Uh huh. Well, I'm looking to see if the other computer has firefox. If so , I'll seE what it looks through the other browser and then work from there....

But most probably, I'll just leave it without.... It's way too much trouble... It's a shame though, I liked the design.... =[

IE 6 renders PNGs incorrectly. IE7 renders them correctly.

but IE7 messes up when a png comes near the css filter alpha afaik.
anyway, firefox is on the best way to become the standard browser so don't bother about the errors IE produces. My list isn't a beauty at IE either but I really gave up making stuff "IE friendly"

While a GIF can do transparency, it can only do 256 colors. Thus if he saved the images as GIF they would lose color and many of the colors would be off. GIFs work well, with few colors and simple images.

PNG on the other hand has the transparency of GIF but color range of JPG. They are not perfect though, PNG tends to be larger in file size then GIF or JPG, and IE has some problems rendering it as seen in the thread. But they are very useful in certain situation.
