Hey MAL! I'm in a need of some help regarding codec packs and decoders.
I just noticed that I had all these 4 installed on my computer ffdshow, lav, cccp & k-lite.
And have had them for years but first now realized that maybe it's not such a great idea to have more than 1.

So which one should I go with? Which one are you'll using?

Oh and the media player I'm using us Media Player Classic. But I also have 2 version of it one just called Media Player Classic and one called Media Player Classic Home Cinema or MPC-HC for short. They seem to pretty much be the same.
Anyways I need help on deciding what codec pack to keep.

Also am correct when I say that LAV & FFDSHOW are decoders and K-Lite and CCCP are codec packs?

Also what's up with Kawaii Codec Pack? I first saw this one a couple of years ago and thought it was a meme, or something, at first. But I've seen it popping up quite a lot among anime watchers. But I don't know what's different with it. Other that it's supposable is good for anime. Though I suspects that it messes with colors a bit to much for my liking.

The reason why I started to look into this was because Media Player Classic didn't want to start for some reason even though it worked just fine yesterday. So I suspected it having to do with this.

Anyways I would appreciate a fast answer so that I can go back to watching Utena :D

First of all, the reason why MPC is crashing is because you have both CCCP and K-Lite installed, you have to uninstall either of them in order for the other to work.

I highly suggest K-Lite if you're going to use MPC to watch anime, for audio and video always use LAV as it has better support and is more updated.

ffdshow is also good for audio since you can split tracks with it.

TL;DR = remove cccp, retain and update K-lite, select madvr as the filter

Thanks I will probably do just that.
But right now I'm testing out the MPV media player with some config I found online that someone made for watching anime with and it works pretty well. Though I do miss some of the features of mpc-hc like being able to name screenshots and chose what directory it will be saved in.

You could add these lines to your config:

screenshot-directory=/path/to/directory
screenshot-template=%F

The most likely problem is paths are being handled in an unanticipated way. It may be worth reading this: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#paths

screenshot-directory=~~desktop/

According to the manual this should place screenshots on your desktop, or you may need to wrap the path in quotes like this:

screenshot-directory="c:\screenshots\"

I can't test it as I'm not running Windows, you'll have to experiment a little.
