I think it's kind of cool to be honest. I have to imagine that there are good and bad sociopaths, although they may not perceive it that way themselves. What I find cool is the condition itself, and not the behavior of the people with the condition. Or rather, I think a sociopath who can function properly in society would be extremely cool. Overall I'm just fascinated that such people can exist at all.

Maybe I'm misguided and a good natured sociopath can't exist, but I'd like to think they can exist, and that probably many of them do exist but aren't written about because they don't commit crimes or let themselves be known.

There are many degrees of sociopathy, from the self-destructive to the violence-addicted one.

I'd say good natured sociopaths do exist, some of the tendencies like manipulation ingrained, like I'l manipulate people without even noticing, there is quite a lack of awareness. I only realised I was manipulating people after pissing of so many of my friends, but I didn't comprehend their complaints, I would only see them as minor things, or too lazy to help them, when I said I would.

psychopaths & sociopaths are interesting in fiction or in crime cases if they're really depraved
but if you encounter one irl run like the fucking wind & dont look back, if they are the abusive, depraved kind

as someone who has borderline / bipolar i feel like they're a lot craftier than me that's fosure, not necessarily inherently dangerous but dangerous when completely out of control

I've been told I am one a lot in the past. When it comes to business, being a (high-functioning) sociopath would be a pretty great advantage. Other than that, I don't regard them any more or less than someone who is capable of empathy.

Jeez.

"The dark triad is a subject in psychology that focuses on three personality traits: narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Use of the term "dark" implies that people possessing these traits have malevolent qualities. ... Narcissism is characterized by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy."

"Psychology
Main article: Machiavellian intelligence
Machiavellianism is also a term that some social, forensic and personality psychologists use to describe a person's tendency to be unemotional, and therefore able to detach him or herself from conventional morality and hence to deceive and manipulate others. In the 1960s, Richard Christie and Florence L. Geis developed a test for measuring a person's level of Machiavellianism (sometimes referred to as the Machiavelli test).[8] Their Mach - IV test, a twenty-statement personality survey, became the standard self-assessment tool of Machiavellianism. People scoring high on the scale (high Machs) tend to endorse statements such as, "Never tell anyone the real reason you did something unless it is useful to do so," (No. 1) but not ones like, "Most people are basically good and kind" (No. 4), "There is no excuse for lying to someone else," (No. 7) or "Most people who get ahead in the world lead clean, moral lives" (No. 11). Using their scale, Christie and Geis conducted multiple experimental tests that showed that the interpersonal strategies and behavior of "High Machs" and "Low Machs" differ.[9] Their basic results have been widely replicated.[10] Measured on the Mach - IV scale, males are, on average, slightly more Machiavellian than females.[9][11]"

"Clinical detachment
concerned with or based on actual observation and treatment of disease in patients rather than experimentation or theory. 3. extremely objective and realistic; dispassionately analytic; unemotionally critical: She regarded him with clinical detachment."

"Triage:
1 a :the sorting of and allocation of treatment to patients and especially battle and disaster victims according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors
b :the sorting of patients (as in an emergency room) according to the urgency of their need for care
2 :the assigning of priority order to projects on the basis of where funds and other resources can be best used, are most needed, or are most likely to achieve success"

If you honestly believe this then I recommend you get diagnosed. Honestly at times I feel like my empathy is just plain gone, but when I actually end up testing it out I still end up having it. Are you sure you don't just find yourself in a particular mindset out of choice rather than of biology?

I'm a Sociopath myself, I realised it recently. Though, I'd argue a low-functioning sociopath is beneficial as well. Why have people called you a sociopath?

Oh, oops. It seems I misused the term high-functioning. Both are beneficial, but a high-functioning is more so. Well, I don't know if I am one or not, but I have been told I am one because I act like one, I would guess.

High functioning are lucky, low function is a lot more effort.

OP you more likely have autism than sociopathy. A lot of people with autism think they are sociopaths because they don't empathise automatically to things they see because they can't process it. A sociopath on the other hand is a master of their empathy capable of picking and choosing who to care about. Here take this test

The word is a little vague, some people use sociopath to mean 'people with antisocial personality disorder' and some people use it as a synonym for the ill-defined term 'psychopath'. But I have nothing against either as a group in their entirety.

A sociopath and psychopath fall under the same disorder but are different. It's an alternative categorization by some psychologists. A sociopath is a self centered dick and a psychopath is more actively violent.

Humans have a tendency to make mistakes. It's an extremely high tendency, especially when its of a field of expertise that particular individual has little experience with.

Getting a 2nd opinion helps, especially when it's from a professional on the matter. I'm not saying you are or aren't anything, but that it might be a mistake to decide on things by yourself.

It says I'm neurotypical (non-autistic).

And from what I've read, Sociopaths are not masters of empathy, but have none.

Well, there were multiple occasions. I'd guess they all probably have to do with my indifference and tendency to mix the truth with lies. I honestly think that they had no idea what they were talking about, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be the case.

There are other types of people that mistake themselves as sociopaths. Only about 1% of people are sociopaths but it's a little higher in males. Some examples are depressed people since the emotional numbness or borderline personality disorder from being overly dramatic and thinking in Black and White terms or OCD from excessive worry.

That's a misconception. They aren't always totally without empathy but are able to turn their empathy off.

Sociopaths have such a high level of social comfort in society that they begin to take advantage of their power. Personally, I think a person who is a sociopath is driven by a deeper misery than we know.
