So, I've been thinking about starting with this franchise for quite some time and I'm finally decided. And, I have a bunch of questions.

1-Is this adaptation a good place to start?
2-If so, is it better marathoned or just watched with breaks?
3-Is it as insanely bloody and violent as I've been promised?
4-What should I expect of the franchise as a whole?
5-Once I'm done with this adaptation, do I directly go to the manga or watch the movies (The cgi TV anime is out of the question for obvious reasons)?

1. Yes, it's a great introduction to the manga in my opinion. If you like the anime - you will love the manga.

2. With breaks probably, it's a pretty long anime with many dark and heavy themes. A lot for a human brain to take in.

3. Yeah, not so much in the beginning, but the last episodes are very dark and violent. The manga much darker still.

4. The best fantasy saga ever. Beats the crap out of Game of Thrones. :)

5. I would not recommend the movies because I think they are shallow, ugly and downright cringey. But there certainly are people who enjoy them.

Also for the 1997 anime, I personally recommend watching the subbed version as the japanese voice actors are far better, especially the one voicing Griffith.

That's good to hear, I thought it might be in a different mood or badly adapted.

I wouldn't consider 25 episodes to be long at all, but if you say so.

That I take as expected,I would drop instantly anything that didn't put GoT next to shit.

Shame, same animation as the TV anime?

I had that planned already. Thank you!

Long compared to most anime was what I was thinking. I might be wrong there too, but I get the expression most anime are around 12 episodes.

No, the anime is just regular 2d animation basically. The movies have way too much CGI and looks like a bad video-game sometimes. Also, the characters are kind of asian-looking, as if the manga characters mated with some asians and the movie characters became their offspring. The TV anime is more faithful to the manga in terms of artwork.

Actually I meant the modern anime. My bad. But still, I won't look at them. Thanks for the warning.

Oh, well the modern 2016-2017 anime has even worse animation than the movies. Looks like a PS2-game.

Of course not, I'll have to watch and like it first.
