| Ambivalent, for multiple reasons. I'm a little disappointed Satoru didn't end up with Kayo, but sometimes that's reality. There's also nothing wrong with how things turned out--Satoru and Airi have a certain chemistry. Plus it's hard to justify loving a comatose person for fifteen years when the only interaction you ever had with him was in elementary school for a couple weeks. The nature of Satoru and Kayo's romance is still being argued. There's no love quite like your first crush, right? Several scenes suggest they harbor feelings for one another, but how much of those were gratitude, relief, friendship, and romance? These aren't affections adults can sort cleanly, much less prepubescent children. Then there's the debate of whether Satoru is too old to be in an acceptable relationship with Kayo. Well, yes, he has the mind of an adult, but multiple times throughout the show, we see him flustered and influenced by preadolescent innocence. So does this mean his physical brain resembles that of an adult's or a child's? Should that even be the metric by which we judge the relationship? How valid do we consider mind-body dualism in Erased? And let's not forget the anime was never really focused on romance. People being overly invested in love relationships, then being salty over ruined pairings, is nothing new. |

Not that there's a problem with that, if anything it makes his character more interesting. Just teasing, haha. But yeah, that was a good counterexample. I thought what Sachiko and Kayo were doing was more touching heartwarming than arousing. RIP Satoru. |

| You know, its not the fact that they didn't end up together. The thing I had the biggest problem with is that she ended up with the Trap kid, how the hell did that even happen? She moved to a completely different city, why would she had come back and hung out with Satoru's friends if he was in coma? It just doesn't make any sense at all. Ending would had been a million times better if they just put her with some random dude that was never even introduced. It really felt like the writer decided to put some self-inserted BS into the otherwise good story. But as I said, her ending up with the trap just didn't make sense. |

| They are probably mad because the anime dedicated a large amount of episodes to insinuate "Satoru x Kayo". And since the anime cut out all/most of the "Satoru x Airi" development moments, they were mislead to believe that "Satoru x Kayo" was the OTP, but were disappointed because the anime is just a bad/poor/rushed adaptation that doesn't give you any proper explanations. So they end up not fully understanding the story. Just a theory :D |

| Hiromi x Kayo make sense since they are both not supposed to exist. If Hiromi or Kayo married some other people, then it will cause the existence of some children in the original timeline gone/disappear. |

| It's only natural that Kayo moved on. Yeah, Satoru saved her life etc. etc. But imagine a fifteen year gap, dull and mindless. No hope is left on Satoru's awakening. So what do you do? Move on. Though it's easy to say that the teacher is the best girlfriend you could ever have. Shaved Satoru, waited for him for fifteen years. Life goals, except for the murderous psychopath area. |

It's interesting how the addition of one small scene can change the audience's perceptions of a relationship. |
