Doffyfags are 90% of the reason I'm eh on Doffy, but honestly he himself didn't really live up to the expectations I had after how long he's been built up. I don't particularly enjoy him as a character though there are things I can appreciate about him.

Dressroba also didn't live up to my expectations, though I did enjoy it. Had all this "IT'LL BE W7/ENIES TIER" hype early on but ultimately while there were really amazing 10/10 stand-out moments, there was a lot of stuff that fell flat for me and my only real emotional attachment to the arc was Law's backstory with Corazon.

I think he was one of, if not the most interesting and fleshed out villains within his own arc. Most of the previous ones didn't get fleshed out much until later on. Strength wise he was put in a tough spot as we had already seen Luffy beat 2 Warlords. With the huge gap between the Warlords and Emperors he could never be as hard as Crocodile, Lucci or Moriah and still have Luffy believably beat Kaido soon after.

MOTHERFUCKING SABO, Law's backstory, doffy's backstory, Kyros in general, qt dwarves, and doffy family gave me all sorts of varying levels of emotional attachment. Plus all the great comedic moments in the arc

I do think its an arc that benefits a lot from a marathon because of how long it is

I haven't done a mass re-read of it yet but I willl get to that soon since I was waiting for it to finish. It was just lacking the kind of emotional arc that makes me care every single week towards the late second half. Might be arc fatigue of sorts due to how long it was.

Pretty much the same thing happened with Doffy. Not going to deny he's well-written which is what I can appreciate about him, but the longer the arc went on the less interested I was when he was on screen and the less I enjoyed his antics.

dressrosa had a lot of shit going on at the same time all the time so I think it's only understandable if you couldn't sustain the interest all the time every week. definitely a big reason why marathoning it helps a lot

I think the emotional arc ties into my lack of being super invested the most. Arlong's emotional center was Nami, Alabasta's (fuck off Alex) was Vivi, Skypeia had the Shandian history, Enies had Robin, Marineford had Ace.

Sabo was in Dressrosa but he wasn't the emotional center. In that case I guess we could look to Kyros/Law/Dwarves but while they had stand-out moments of emotion it didn't have that kind of main focus that makes thinking of major scenes feel like a punch to the heart.

yeah, I agree but it was really long for a middle-tier arc. Still good, still enjoyable, I still loved quite a bit of it. Just missing that edge I was hoping it would have.

While I agree there wasn't any big heart-wrenching moments for the present, I found I was as invested in Law's story as I was Vivi and the stuff in Skypiea. Hopefully the stuff with Kaido brings some of that back because PH lacked that kind of thing too.

I'm a massive gigantic huge Vivifag and quite a Lawfag too. But once again, while I loved his backstory it didn't tie into the present well enough for me.

In Vivi's case, when I think of her tears after Luffy beat Croc, her punching Luffy and him punching back when she didn't know what to do, the Straw Hats fighting till they passed out for her but not letting her see how tired they were and of course the final goodbye

Shit like that will never fail to get me.
