persona 3 fes is basically the sequel to persona 3. it shows the aftermath of the ending for persona 3 and fills in some story holes.

its a much shorter game than persona 3 and has more limited gameplay since you'll spend all your time in dungeons in fes.

If you have to chose between the two chose FES. It has an extra sort of expansion pack added, and it has more persona. It changes a few aspects of the game but for the most part it is the same. Other then the bonus part named "the answer" the story of the two games is completely the same.

I forgot to mention if you are buying the game buying Persona 3 FES comes with the original game as well. Its like a bigger version, kind of like one of the complete versions of some many games they release later in japan. only this one got a US release. I think X-play said Persona 3 FES was the way the game should have been made in the first place. Buying it is buying Persona 3 with an expansion pack.

Persona 3 FES is an enhanced remake of Persona 3 in which it features some slight changes to the main story itself and adds a sequel to it. In the sequel, Episode Aegis (The Answer), you assume the role of Aigis, the anti-shadow humanoid and pretty much go through a shorter story with limited gameplay features. Although you do not have access to the persona compendium, this sort of fusion method is actually true to the original Shin Megami Tensei series as that there originally was no such thing as a compendium in the first place.

"1. What is Persona 3 FES?

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES is an enhanced edition of the dating sim/dungeon crawler entry in the Persona series, which originally came out in the U.S. in August 2007. It was created by Atlus Japan as an extra for fans of the first game, since the reception was so positive both here and overseas.

2. What's new in FES?

Persona 3 FES is divided into two parts. The first and longest part is The Journey, which consists of an enhanced version of the same game previously released. The enhancements include a new Hard Mode selectable from the start, new Personas, a new Social Link with new Arcana, new classroom pop quizzes, a new Weapon Fusion system, over 50 new requests from Elizabeth, new nighttime events with Koromaru, and a few secrets as well.

The second part is The Answer, an entirely new chapter in Persona 3 that deals with the events after The Journey's ending. In The Answer, you play as Aigis to solve the mystery of "time skips" that have trapped the S.E.E.S. members in the same repeating day. The Answer gives players who have completed the Journey a formidable challenge: conquer hundreds of new floors filled with enemies and bosses harder than anything in The Journey's Hard Mode, and do it all without the benefit of The Journey's Persona compendium."

sorry...i didnt read the posts (afraid of spoilers!!!)
still havent played the games...do i need to play persona 3 before fes in order to understand the story?! i mean if its not necessary for fes i prefer not to play persona 3 (waste of time)
what about persona 4...its the sequel of 3 or is it a new and separate game? is it better than persona 3 and fes?
please answer without spoilers...thanks a lot.
Uh, The Answer is a sequel so you'll need to play P3 (The Journey) to understand it properly. Or rather, it would be more or less pointless to play The Answer at all if it was not for seeing that extra bit of story from P3, as the whole gameplay is basically shortened down a lot from P3's in all aspects. It's just a bonus addon to the FES release after all.

P4 has nothing to do with P3, other than some brief cameo appearances and otherwise similar Personas and stuff.

Persona 3/The Journey = Fun game with plenty of variety

FES/The Answer = Dull load of shit with only grinding

Yeah, The Answer is quite shitty. I recommend skipping it entirely.
